Amazon Smiles: Smile.amazon.com/ch/51-0195683 Wilson’s Halfway House was founded as a private, non-profit organization in 1976 by three visionary women; Judy Knowlton, Ethel Finley and Doris Vandeven. These women saw a need for a residence that provides structure, discipline, guidance and support for women in early recovery from substance abuse. The house takes its name from Lois Wilson, wife of Alcoholic’s Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson. It is a home where women begin to learn to live life without alcohol or drugs. The Corporate name, Alfre, Inc., derives from the phrase ”alcohol free”, a condition the founders were striving to ensure. Over the years, Alfre has expanded its reach to other counties, but is now consolidated in the original location in Morris County. Wilson’s is a lovely old Victorian Home located in Historic Morristown, New Jersey. The Halfway House is a 14-bed, residential substance abuse treatment facility licensed by the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services. The facility is situated 35 miles west of New York City, NY and 55 miles east of the Pocono Mountains in PA. For further information on making a donation, please contact the development director at 973-540-1781 ext. 12. Wilson's is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c)(3). In accordance with the new IRS regulations, we acknowledge that no goods or services have been exchanged in return for contribuitions. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

Alcohol is most likely to be the substance of choice in a substance use disorder diagnosis because it is legal and is seen as a socially acceptable. Alcohol often times plays a large role in socializing and celebrating milestones and holidays.

The effects of alcohol can seriously take a toll on health. Excessive use is likely to lead to liver disease. DUI's and traffic accidents are also more likely to be attributed to alcohol than drugs.
