The first gyn appointment can be daunting for many teen and their parent, but it’s also crucial for their health! 🩺 Madison Avenue OBGYN recommends that the first appointments happen before they go away to college/their next step after high school or when they become sexually active and first Pap smear be done at 21.

A first gynecology appointment can establish a good baseline of reproductive health and ensure that they are taking care of their bodies properly. It can help identify any potential issues early on, which can prevent more serious health problems down the line. Additionally, it’s an opportunity for teens to ask questions and learn about their bodies and reproductive health, which can empower them to make informed decisions about their own physical and sexual health.

To prepare both parents and teens here is a short list of what will be covered and done during the first appointment-

🔹Questions about your:
🔹personal medical history
🔹menstrual periods
🔹sexual activities
🔹family history
🔹General Physical Exam and External Ge***al Exam
🔹Pelvic Exams can be done as needed.

With the intense heat of summer, let’s talk hydration!

During pregnancy, you should drink 8 to 12 cups (64-96 ounces) of water every day. Drink throughout the day, not just when you are thirsty. It is important to also make sure you are replenishing electrolytes, especially if you are sweating heavily. 💦

If you are going through menopause, hydration is important too, as it helps regulate your body’s temperature.
