Observing the various traditional practices of my childhood while incorporating rituals is one of the ways I honor my spirituality. The 40 days of Lent is another practice I learned as a child that has found an authentic voice in my current spiritual experience.
Traditionally, Lent is:
๐ 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter
๐ Representative of the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert during which he fasted and was tempted by the devil, which preceded his public ministry.
๐ Typically, it includes penitence, abstinence, and fasting
So, in essence, Jesus' time in the desert was to deepen his spiritual experience, commune with God, and stave off temptation; during which he prayed and meditated.
So, how did it primarily come to be about abstaining and atonement? What if during these 40 days, we take a cue from Jesus and deepen into our own soul work - exploring our shadow, incorporating practices that enrich our spirituality, and learning how to strengthen our connection to the Divine. We can look at it as a time for expanding our spiritual growth, reconnecting to ourselves, and therefore allowing our most authentic selves to shine!
Did you know that the number 40 has been used throughout various spiritual traditions? It is thought that incorporating a practice for 40 days straight breaks negative habits that block you from spiritual growth and expansion.
Join me on a 40-day journey to growth. Start today; even if it's something simple as 5 mins of meditation (but then continue with the same practice for 40 days!) I'll be elaborating more on the rituals and practices I'm observing over this time, including:
