President's Diagnosis Sheds Light on Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) and Why Should You Care?

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) affects millions of Americans and can lead to significant leg discomfort, swelling, skin changes, and even ulcers. It occurs when the veins in your legs are unable to return blood efficiently back to the heart.

Dr. Scott Sundick, vascular surgeon at the Vein Institute at The Cardiovascular Care Group, recently contributed his expertise to a national article discussing CVI in the context of the President's health. His commentary helped shed light on a condition that often goes underdiagnosed.

💡 Symptoms of CVI include:
• Leg heaviness or fatigue
• Swelling in the lower legs and ankles
• Varicose veins
• Skin discoloration or thickening

Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent progression and improve your quality of life.

Materials Manager | Lead Surgical Tech | Medical Assistant Extraordinaire

Meet Leigh Galinak, a vital part of our team for the past six years! Leigh wears many hats at the Vein Institute of New Jersey — from ordering surgical supplies and managing inventory for all of our locations, to assisting with vein surgeries and keeping patients informed and at ease.

Leigh began her healthcare journey after studying at Hohokus RETS in Nutley, NJ. Since then, she’s become a NASM certified personal trainer, is currently studying nutrition, and has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 40 years — a true example of strength and dedication.

When asked what makes VINJ special, Leigh chose the word “benevolent.” And that sums her up, too. Whether it’s guiding a patient through their procedure or coordinating behind the scenes to keep our surgical suites running smoothly, Leigh’s passion for patient care and camaraderie with her coworkers shines every day.

Outside of work, Leigh is a full-time mom of two, a healthy cook and baker, a fan of weightlifting, and even dabbles in home improvement. Talk about multitasking!

👏 Thank you, Leigh, for everything you do to make our patients feel comfortable and our practice run efficiently. We're lucky to have you on our team!
