💎 The Diamond Jubilee 💠

This past Saturday, NJPNI had the privilege of attending the 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. It was a wonderful evening celebrating the legacy, progress, and unwavering commitment of pediatric professionals across our state.

As the proud “Official Cocktail Sponsor”, we were thrilled to raise a glass to seven and a half decades of advancing children’s health in the Garden State.

A special congratulations to Dr. Margaret “Meg” Fisher, honored with the first-ever Pediatrician Lifetime Achievement Award in NJAAP’s 75-year history. Her visionary leadership, decades of service, and extraordinary dedication to children’s health continue to inspire us all.

We were grateful to join such a meaningful celebration and proud to stand alongside colleagues who share the same mission: improving the lives of children and families in New Jersey and beyond.

Swipe to see the highlights! Thank you, , for a wonderful event. We are honored to partner in supporting the future of pediatric care in NJ. 💙✨

A huge thank you to our NJPNI community! 💙 This week, Heather Marretta delivered 348 pounds of food to the Interfaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains — all generously donated through our month-long NJPNI food drive.

From collecting the donations to unloading and weighing the final haul, this effort showed the true power of compassion and community support. Your kindness will make a meaningful difference for families in need this holiday season.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed. Thank you for helping us spread warmth, nourishment, and hope during this special time of year. 🎁✨

🌈 Student Shadow Spotlight: Meet Ingrid! ✨

Ingrid is a first-year pre-med student who recently spent the day shadowing Dr. Mazzola — and her experience was nothing short of extraordinary. In just one day, she observed patient care in clinic, toured the NICU and PICU, and even witnessed a full neurosurgical procedure: an Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy… as a freshman in college!

Dr. Mazzola took the time to explain each patient’s condition, next steps, and treatment reasoning, giving Ingrid a true look into the world of pediatric neurosurgery. Experiences like this can be career-shaping, and we are proud to support the next generation of future clinicians.

If you’re an undergraduate or pre-med student interested in shadowing one of our providers, we welcome you to reach out.

Email your resume and the specialty/NJPNI location you’re interested in to: info@njpni.com, and our clinical manager, Dawn Milligan, will help determine availability.

Please note: one shadow opportunity is allowed per student, and placement depends on provider schedules.

We love seeing young minds inspired, and we’re honored to play a small part in their journey into medicine. 💙👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

This week’s Lunch & Learn featured a wonderful presentation from Christine of the New Jersey Pediatric Psychiatry Collaborative (NJPPC), who joined us to share the important services they provide for children and families across our state.

While NJPNI does not offer psychological or psychiatric care in-house, we are committed to staying ahead of the curve and strengthening the trusted referral partnerships our patients rely on. With that in mind, we’re excited to announce our new collaboration with the NJPPC moving forward.

This partnership will help us better support families in need of mental and behavioral health resources, ensuring every child has access to the comprehensive care they deserve in a prompt manner.

Thank you to Christine and the NJPPC team for this valuable session—and for the incredible work you do to help New Jersey’s children. 💙

Dr. Mazzola has officially completed the second leg of her humanitarian trip in Kyiv, continuing her work to support children and families affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

During her time there, she partnered with SAVE UKRAINE, an incredible organization dedicated to protecting and supporting children and families harmed by Russian aggression. So many young lives have been displaced or orphaned, and this organization is doing vital work on the ground every day.

While in Kyiv, Dr. Mazzola spent her morning rounding in the hospital and lecturing on the treatment of cerebral palsy, sharing expertise and collaborating with local medical teams devoted to caring for children in crisis.

We are grateful for her safe return home and deeply inspired by the compassion, skill, and commitment she brings to every child—whether here at NJPNI or across the world. Our prayers remain with Ukraine, and our appreciation goes to SAVE UKRAINE for their extraordinary mission. 💙

🧠💜 Did you know NJPNI performs EEGs right here in our office?

As we recognize Epilepsy Awareness Month, we want to highlight one of the most important tools in diagnosing and managing seizure disorders — the EEG (electroencephalogram).

An EEG records electrical activity in the brain, helping our neurologists detect abnormal patterns that may indicate epilepsy or other neurological conditions. It’s safe, painless, and provides valuable insight into how a child’s brain is functioning.

Our team takes extra care to make the process comfortable — even for our tiniest patients. 💙

👉 If your child has been experiencing unexplained episodes, staring spells, or possible seizure-like activity, call 973-326-9000 to book your initial visit or talk to your NJPNI provider about whether an EEG may be right for them.
