Lady Dashing Eagles Soar to Historic Victory Against Dominica
Against the odds, against the depth charts, and against two of the region’s strongest opponents, the USVI U17 Women’s National Team, the Lady Dashing Eagles, delivered a performance that will echo through Virgin Islands football history.
Traveling with just 12 players after multiple withdrawals prior to camp, the Lady Dashing Eagles entered international competition knowing every minute would demand resilience, sacrifice, and belief. With only one available substitute per match, the margin for error was razor thin. Still, this young squad refused to flinch.
After opening the tournament against powerhouse opponents Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, the Lady Dashing Eagles took the field for their third match on Friday, January 30, 2026, facing Dominica, and history was waiting.
At the heart of the team’s earlier performances stood goalkeeper Kyliz Osorio, who delivered a display for the ages. Her fearless shot-stopping earned widespread admiration.
Head Coach Katie Quinlan was effusive in her praise.
“Kyliz is a warrior and she has so much potential. She deserves all the plaudits for her performance against another strong opponent,” Quinlan said. “This is a great environment to show her capabilities, and I have not seen a better save at this age group than the one she faced in overtime,” Quinlan continued. “I am excited for her future. She is eager to learn, a fantastic character to have in our group, and improving every single game.”
Fueled by that belief, the Lady Dashing Eagles stepped onto the pitch against Dominica with confidence, and made an immediate statement.
Just three minutes after the opening whistle, USVI found the back of the net for the first time in the tournament. The breakthrough came courtesy of Celine Kalpee, who smashed home her first-ever goal in official competition, a moment of pure joy for player and team alike.
Moments later, the pressure continued. Captain Reagan Marshall led by example, striking again to double the advantage and ignite belief in the USVI.
From there, the Lady Dashing Eagles dug in.
What followed was a disciplined, physical, and courageous defensive performance, every tackle contested, every clearance earned. Despite fatigue setting in and substitutions limited, USVI held firm, recording a clean sheet and sealing a historic victory.
It marked the first win for the USVI U17 Women’s National Team in 13 years.
For a squad battling exhaustion, adversity, and expectation, the result was more than just three points, it was a statement of identity. The bond forming within this group has been impossible to miss, forged through shared hardship and collective belief.
This was a victory powered by grit, unity, and fearless youth.
On a day when numbers were few but hearts were full, the Lady Dashing Eagles didn’t just compete, they soared.
