This birth began the way so many intuitive births do — quietly, subtly, and with a mother deeply connected to her body.
Friday evening, this mama noticed her mucus plug release. Soon after, she experienced some leaking that didn’t feel like urine. There were no strong surges yet, but something felt different. Instead of dismissing it, she stayed connected — checking in, asking questions, and trusting that her body was communicating with her.
As the leaking continued without change, she reached out to her midwives and was asked to come in. It was confirmed that her waters had released. With surges still spaced and knowing the clock matters once membranes rupture, her care team gently supported her body with medication to help encourage a labor pattern — always keeping safety, consent, and trust at the center.
Through the night, she rested. Her body was working. Her baby was safe. She was surrounded by providers she trusted — and sometimes that alone is enough to allow the nervous system to soften and labor to organize.
By morning, her surges had found a rhythm. They were building with intention. Around 7:00 AM, she called me to join her — a clear sign that things were shifting. Her midwife checked in and, based on the changes in her pattern and demeanor, supported her continuing to labor without even needing a cervical exam. Her body was leading the way.
We shifted the energy of the room — affirmations on repeat, essential oils diffusing, hands offering steady back massage. She moved intuitively, finding comfort on hands and knees over a supported CUB. Each wave brought her closer, and she met them with breath and focus.
We transitioned to the shower, where the warmth helped her soften even more. The intensity grew — unmistakably active labor. Soon after, the tub was ready, and she lowered herself into the water, allowing buoyancy and warmth to support her through the waves.
