Important! Grassroots Action needed Medicare cuts

The American College of Surgeons is encouraging you to urge lawmakers to sign a letter in support of preventing cuts to Medicare physician payment (see below for more information and a current list of signers). The deadline for U.S. House of Representatives members to sign the letter to House leadership has been extended to October 8, 2021. If you haven’t already, please take a minute to contact your representative via the following link.

Grassroots Action Needed to Promote Congressional Sign-On Letter to Stop Medicare Payment Cuts
Reps. Ami Bera, MD (D-CA), and Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN), are leading a sign-on letter to U.S. House of Representatives leadership urging congressional action on imminent Medicare payment cuts before the end of the year. The letter, which is addressed to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), highlights growing financial uncertainty within the Medicare payment system and the need for systemic reforms to the payment system to speed the transition to value-based care. Additionally, it urges Congress to provide stability to health care professionals by averting imminent payment cuts, including extending the expiring 3.75 percent payment adjustment Congress provided last year.

Last year, record-breaking participation from surgeon advocates across the country played a key role in delaying the proposed cuts to Medicare physician payment. It is once again imperative to activate our strong grassroots network as without congressional action, these cuts will take effect January 1, 2022.

Act now! It will only take a minute of your time to send a pre-drafted letter to your representative urging them to sign the letter to House leadership prior to the October 8 deadline. For more information, contact ACS DAHP staff at ahp@facs.org.

We need your immediate assistance to increase the number of House lawmakers willing to support legislative action to stop the cuts to Medicare physician payment. Currently, only 7 percent of U.S. House members have signed the letter. To make an impact and urge legislative action, we must grow the list of signatories to demonstrate widespread support for this issue.

It will only take a minute of your time to click here to send a pre-drafted letter to your elected officials via SurgeonsVoice asking them to sign a letter supporting congressional intervention to stop the cuts. With the September 17 sign-on deadline looming, inundating Hill offices with requests to sign the letter between now and Thursday is essential.

Please share this information with your chapter members.
