•Herbal Salt Recipe•

Herbal salt is a great way to preserve some@of@your garden herbs. Right now in late spring in PA my favorite herbs to use are: chives, garlic mustard, nettle, oregano, thyme, and lemon balm.

Blend the herbs you collect. Measure it blended and add double the amount of salt. Blend together. Spread slightly damp salty mixture on a cookie sheet and bake at 220 for about 10 minutes. But check on it often. Once your salt is dried it is ready to cool, break apart and store in a jar with a lid.

Make it now to give as holiday gifts this winter!

•Little Bits of Joy•
This week joy was:
Wood chipping some invasive trees we removed around our house, and collecting the chips in wheelbarrows to then mulch around my garden beds.

Mulberry picking with my sisters and nephews

Preping for a June beach trip by making after sun lotion with fresh cut aloe from my house plants. I don’t usually make this available on my website but DM and and I’ll ship you some. Also great for eczema, sun burns and rashes.

Herbal salt - making some wedding gifts for friends this year. This salt is flavored with garlic chives from the garden. I’ll post an easy recipe soon.

Obsessed with this audio book right now as I work in the apothecary and garden - Beach Read by Emily Henry . The banter between these characters is so good.

My nephew got face paint to look like my dog. It’s the whole point to this wild life - having your little critters be obsessed with each other and getting to witness it over and over again.

The non glamorous beginning of the season. Getting cardboard down over my walking paths in preparation for the rain today and tomorrow. Then I’ll put wood chips on top of the cardboard next week! The beds are also beginning to get compost, put around the perennial medicinals, and any other medicinals, like dandelion, that I will be hosting in the garden bed this year.

last year I got married and my garden became a lesser priority. This year there’s a lot to clean up and a lot of work to be done to keep it. Nice organized and productive for the 2024 season!

Always always always new things happening and growing. Today we worked on this brooder to make away for baby chicks that will come someday soon. Heart of the moon herbs is slowly growing in a new direction that includes chickens (eggs) and mushrooms. Looking forward to expanding this account and business to make way for the other things that fill up the day!
