with 🤩 I got the call a few months ago for an opportunity to work with a dear friend of mine to photograph some cutting edge medical devices. It meant a lot to get the call from her, and for the company to also believe in hiring someone with a cervical level spinal cord injury.
There were some obvious obstacles to navigate, however Derek was such a champ to work with, and the fact that we were able to shoot in our home, gave us the accessibility we needed… And a chance to show off our bathroom! ☺️
It’s pretty cool to see products like these (ActiveAid SC) get developed and rolled out into production. As a wheelchair user, it’s important to have a, “shower chair” to bathe in. Believe it or not, there’s not very many options for us out there, and the ones that are available to us can be pretty expensive and often times not covered by insurance. Insurance companies (not medical professionals) would rather see us bathe in bed.🤬 I digress…🙄
It’s awesome to see designs improve, things become better, more functional, more aesthetically pleasing, and easier for users and caregivers in every day practice. I’m so honored to provide my artistic expression to help inspire innovation in a field that desperately needs it. Be sure to keep an eye out for these sleek new shower chairs! 👀🙌
Thank you, Kristen, Derek, Katarina & AltimateMedical
