Congratulations to Sunny, the May Pet of the Month! Isn’t she a ray of sunshine? ☀️ 🐾

“Sunny is a one-year-old orange beauty with a big personality to match her size. Whether she’s claiming a cardboard box as her throne or lounging regally in the sink, she knows exactly how to make herself at home. Don’t let her place as the second youngest of four fool you—Sunny runs the house as the undeniable queen bee. She’s known for her “aggressive” snuggles (on her terms, of course) and her playful spirit with her family. Equal parts sass and sweetness, Sunny keeps life interesting—and very well supervised.”

Did you know that keeping your pet at a healthy weight can help protect them from many potential health problems?

Health problems that are generated by being overweight include the following:
• Early arthritis
• Respiratory difficulties - especially in dogs with short noses. (pugs/bulldogs etc.)
• Heart problems due to work overload
• Liver problems
• Difficulty giving birth.
• Increase risk of heatstroke
• Diabetes
• A**l gland infections/impactions.
• Poor skin/hair coat
• Increased risk with surgery and anesthesia
• Shortened life span

The main cause of obesity is lack of sufficient exercise and/or excessive food.
If you think your pet might benefit from losing a little weight, feel free to reach out to our clinic—we’re here to help create a customized weight-loss plan just for them.

When allergens contact the skin, the immune system creates an inflammatory response resulting in itchiness. Examples of allergens are pollens, molds, dust mite, dander or skin cells, diet (ingredients) and many other substances.
Symptoms:
• Itchiness/Scratching
• Licking/chewing/biting hair/skin
• Hair loss
• Lick stains (hair will have brown discoloration due to saliva staining, commonly seen on paws/legs)
• Raw skin/sores caused by over scratching or chewing
Symptoms typically start to show around 6 months - 3 years of age.
Treatment
• Topical management - bathing more often, using special shampoos/mousses.
• Oral medications
• Injectable medications
• Allergen-specific Immunotherapy (allergy testing)
Management:
• Managing allergies can be costly. If you know what allergens your pet is sensitive to, try to limit exposure to that allergen in their environment or diet. However, this can be hard to do especially with seasonal allergens.

Fleas and ticks are active anytime it's above 32 degrees. 😳

Spring and fall = peak season, but they can stick around even in cooler temperatures.

That's why protection isn't seasonal -- it's year-round.

Is your pet covered?🐾

Why do we recommend a f***l sample yearly?
Intestinal parasites are identified through a stool sample, and some of these parasites are zoonotic: meaning they can be transmitted to people.
Parasites can also impact your pet’s health. Common signs include diarrhea, weight loss, vomiting, scooting, anemia, poor coat, or pot-bellied appearance.
Routine f***l testing is an important preventive step to help protect your pet’s health and safety. Detecting parasites early also reduces the risk of spreading them to people and other animals.
Keep in mind that even pets that appear healthy can still carry parasites.
