Fall is here, and it’s time to make a to-do list. Are doctor’s appointments on that list? Most insurance plans run on the calendar year, meaning that soon your deductible will reset to zero.

If you have met, or almost met, your deductible, it is advantageous to complete tests, screenings, or procedures before the year ends.

The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) campus in Moultrie recently profiled medical student and former elementary school teacher Christen York from Tifton.

Christen has signed with Southwell to practice as a physician in our service area upon completion of her residency training. Congratulations to Christen for this special recognition from PCOM!

Christen is one of more than 50 medical students who have committed to practicing with Southwell in the future. And, this number keeps growing!

Former teacher Christen York begins her journey to becoming a doctor at PCOM South Georgia, supported by family and a welcoming medical school community.

September is Sepsis Awareness Month!

Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.

The risk of sepsis can be reduced by preventing or quickly identifying and managing infections. This includes practicing good hygiene, staying current with vaccinations, and seeking treatment when infections are suspected.

What are the symptoms? When it comes to sepsis, remember It’s About TIME!

T – Temperature – higher or lower than normal
I – Infection – may have signs or symptoms of infection
M – Mental Decline – confused, sleepy, difficult to rouse
E – Extremely ill – severe pain, discomfort, shortness of breath

If you suspect sepsis, see your medical professional immediately, CALL 911, or go to a hospital emergency department with an advocate and say, “I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SEPSIS.”
