Celebrating National Rural Health Day and 60 Years of Rural Health at Delta Health Center 💙
Yesterday was National Rural Health Day and we couldn’t let the moment pass without celebrating 60 years of caring for the Mississippi Delta.
Delta Health Center has been providing quality, compassionate care since the very beginning.
As the first Federally Qualified Health Center in the United States and the first rural Community Health Center, our story started in 1965 in historic Mound Bayou. Founded by Dr. H. Jack Geiger and Dr. Count Gibson, our mission was built on lifting up vulnerable communities through accessible, comprehensive health care.
From digging wells and improving living conditions to providing medical care, nutrition programs, transportation, and community training, Delta Health Center has always stood for more than medicine. We’ve stood for progress, empowerment, and health equity.
Today we continue that legacy, proudly serving more than 10,000 individuals and families and helping inspire a national network of over 1,300 community health centers.
And we’re still growing.
We are proud to now serve the Rosedale area, expanding our reach and bringing high quality care to even more families across the Delta.
Here’s to 60 years of making history
60 years of community
60 years of rural health leadership
And we’re just getting started. 💙🌾
