After a total knee replacement with Dr. Brian Bjerke and our EXCEL program, Eric is embracing a life full of adventure.

“I’ve had knee problems for years. It started with a broken kneecap from playing soccer, followed by bipartite patella surgery, and a couple of meniscus repairs. I’ve always been active. Skiing, biking, hiking, and just staying on the move. Eventually, the pain became too much.

I saw several TCO physicians in the past, and when things got worse, I decided to get a second opinion there. A few of my friends had great experiences with Dr. Bjerke, so I made an appointment. He recommended TCO’s EXCEL program and thought I would be a good fit. He was right.

The experience was outstanding. I had surgery at TCO Eagan - Viking Lakes and recovered in a care suite at the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel across the street. It felt more like a high-end hotel stay than a hospital visit. I received physical therapy right in my room, and everything from pre-op to recovery was smooth and well-organized.

I was back to work in four weeks and riding a recumbent bike in seven. Now, I’m preparing for a hiking trip in Bhutan this fall and feeling great. From start to finish, Dr. Bjerke and the entire team made the process easy and supportive. The EXCEL program gave me the comfort, care, and confidence I needed, and I am truly grateful.”

Our managers do more than lead. They inspire.

Throughout the season, we’ve shown our thanks in different ways, including gathering a few managers from TCO and Training HAUS at Minnesota Vikings games. It’s a small gesture to recognize the big impact they make.

On this Purple Friday, as the Vikings prepare to face the Eagles, we celebrate the leaders who make us stronger every day.

Specialized care takes center stage.

Five TCO dance medicine specialists recently attended the 2025 IADMS - International Association for Dance Medicine & Science Conference, advancing knowledge in injury prevention and performance for dancers.

Representing TCO were Dr. Brad Moser, PTs Alexa Horning, Breanna Ellis, and Hanwen Wong, and PTA Jodi Zupancich. Hanwen also presented a case study, showcasing our leadership in evidence-based care and commitment to helping performing artists shine under the bright lights.

Aquatic therapy has made a big splash with patients. Before surgery, it can ease joint pain, improve mobility, and build strength, all with less stress on the body.

Jean took the plunge before her knee replacements, and it made all the difference.

“I didn’t know both of my knees were completely bone on bone until I met with my care team at TCO. Before moving forward with surgery, they recommended aquatic therapy at TCO Eagan – Viking Lakes with PTA Alyssa Langevin. That’s where my journey truly began.

Alyssa made me feel comfortable in the pool right away. She knew when to push me and when to ease up; always keeping things positive, personalized, and professional. At the end of every session, she would go over what we accomplished and what was next. It kept me motivated.

I had both of my knees replaced by Dr. Scott Anseth, who also did both of my hips years ago. TCO has taken care of me from initial diagnoses of the issues to preoperative therapy to post-op recovery and physical therapy. I always felt like I was in good hands. Even during my land-based physical therapy, Alyssa would stop by just to check in. That kind of support is rare and incredibly meaningful.

Aquatic therapy helped me strengthen my body and my mindset. It got me ready for surgery and made recovery easier. Today, I’m biking at the gym, spending time with friends, and getting back to the social, active life I missed. TCO and Alyssa didn’t just help me heal, they helped me feel like myself again.”

A skiing accident left Ashley’s future as a photographer out of focus. With our help, she was back behind the camera by wedding season.

“I went skiing with some friends. It was a perfect day with a light snowfall that quickly turned into one of my worst nightmares. While going down a hill, I gained too much speed. While trying to slow down, my ski got caught, and my leg bent in the worst way. I knew something was wrong and needed ski patrol. Fortunately, they came quickly and got me the rest of the way down the hill.

My husband rushed me to TCO Urgent Care in Woodbury. I was able to be seen quickly. After getting an MRI, it was confirmed that I had a 3rd degree MCL tear and a full-blown ACL tear that would require surgery. I was crushed. Tears streamed uncontrollably. I knew how serious this injury was and was immediately filled with so much uncertainty, especially in regard to my photography business.
Unfortunately, surgery wasn’t an option for at least 6-8 weeks as my MCL needed to heal first. As I started to do the math, I realized that if I had surgery, there was a fairly high chance I wouldn’t have enough time to recover and shoot the weddings that I had booked this spring.

After lots of time to think and discuss my options, I decided to build up the strength around my ACL as much as possible to keep me stable. I postponed surgery until the fall, when I would have more time to make a full recovery.

There were many days filled with doubt, tears, and uncertainty. However, I tried to stay focused on gratitude through it all. After weeks of physical therapy and committing to my exercises like it was my full-time job, I finally made it to a point where I could confidently shoot my first wedding again and even walked a full mile just last night. Thank you, TCO!”

Sadie was hitting her stride on the water until pain disrupted her rhythm. With help from her team at TCO, she’s back rowing stronger than ever.

“After racing with intense pain in my left knee, I visited TCO’s Eden Prairie Urgent Care to gain clarity on what I was experiencing. We took some imaging, and I ended up at TCO once a week with physical therapist Dylan Scott to treat a hamstring strain and tendonitis in my left knee.

In early September, I still had lingering pain, so we took an MRI scan of my knee, discovering a tear in my lateral meniscus. It felt like every goal was being scribbled off my list as I looked at the scans on the computer. When I saw Dylan at physical therapy the next day, he took the time to sit down to answer every question I had. He assured me that no matter what happened with surgery, I would be well taken care of at TCO.

In November, Dr. Chris LaPrade performed a meniscectomy on my left knee to clean up the tear. Leading up to surgery, both Dylan and Dr. LaPrade worked very hard to make sure I felt as informed as possible, and we developed recovery plans far in advance. The day after surgery, I was already back at the Eden Prairie clinic working on walking and my range of motion.

Throughout recovery, Dylan worked to get me back on the water as soon as possible. I looked forward to every session with him because he knows my competitive brain and my wacky biomechanics better than I know them myself. After being discharged from physical therapy, adding ACE to my summer schedule was a no-brainer because it provided me an opportunity to keep working hard and getting stronger with TCO.

Exactly seven months after undergoing surgery, I was on the racecourse for the US Rowing Youth National Championships, and I know that I would not have achieved this opportunity without the unwavering support of TCO through the ups and downs.”

For Charles, recovering from a knee replacement at the Orthopedic Institute, a value-based partnership between TCO and Ridgeview Hospitals and Clinics blew his expectations away.

“The Orthopedic Institute was a marvelous facility. The accommodations were first class, and the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. I have commented to many people that the food was outstanding, definitely better than the food I’ve had in hospitals.

TCO’s Dr. Samuel Carlson was great. Everything was thorough, considerate, and productive. The follow-up visits have been no less informative.
