My midwife took a nap… twice… while I was in labor.

My midwife drove almost 2 hours to get to me…
and when she got there, I wasn’t even ready yet.

So she went into our spare room and took a nap.

And then later…
I’m in the birth pool. In labor.
and she’s on my bed… taking another one.

I know how that sounds.

But honestly… that’s when everything shifted for me.

Nobody was acting like something was wrong.
Nobody was rushing me.
Nobody was all up in my space.

It was just quiet.
dark.
peaceful.

Just me… doing my thing.

And when I actually needed her?
I went and got her… and she was right there.
Calm. ready. fully there for me.

She didn’t take over.
She didn’t panic.
She just supported me.

And after my baby was born, when she was a little concerned about me…
she didn’t leave.

She stayed for hours.
just watching me, checking on me, making sure I was okay.

That kind of care sticks with you.

Because I know what the other version looks like.
bright lights.
constant interruptions.
people in and out.

This wasn’t that.

This felt safe.
This felt peaceful.
This felt like mine.

Every woman deserves to feel like that when she gives birth.

Today is International Day of the Midwife 🤍
and I’ll never stop being grateful for mine.

This birth was truly special! The new little man was a big boy, and we enjoyed additional time with him and his mother in the birth suite overnight and for a few extra days. There's room for the family, including sisters and brothers! It was a good time; lots of memories were made.
