Ok. Here's a little visual for you. This is what happens when you wash car seat straps.
Far left with the buckle piece has an unknown history.
On the left is a strap washed in laundry detergent.
Middle: blue dawn
Right, simply water.

Car seat straps are coated in a fire retardant chemical that can be washed off. It makes a difference.

Buying a used carseat can be very dangerous, as you have no clue what could have happened.
