Meet your Urology Provider!

David M. Werle, MD, has been with Northern Urology for 14 years.

Dr. Werle was inspired to become a urology provider due to the diversity of pathology and the ability to practice medicine and perform surgery within one specialty. "The ability to provide [sometimes] long-term care for patients and develop/cultivate those relationships makes my job very rewarding," said Dr. Werle.

"I have always prided myself on my old-school approach, where I take time to address each patient's concerns and problems and explain everything as clearly as possible. I try to look at the patient, not at a computer screen, while we are interacting," said Werle. "I also try to take time to effectively communicate with every patient so that all of their concerns and questions are addressed and that they are comfortable with me and Northern Urology while we are caring for them."

Dr. Werle would like to raise awareness about bladder cancer in the community, as "We treat a lot of bladder cancer in Mount Airy," he said. Understanding the risk factors, such as smoking, is important for early diagnosis and treatment.

Although our 2025 Junior Volunteer Program concluded a month ago, we'd like to recognize the three volunteers who worked the highest number of hours:

Belinda Juarez (Surry Early College High School) – 148 Hours
Anaya Sweatman (Surry Early College High School) – 103 Hours
Heylen Lopez (North Surry High School) – 96 Hours

The program requirement is 40 total hours worked, so it's safe to say these three went above and beyond! Thank you all for your dedication to NRH, our patients, and our community. 💚

Today, we're not just celebrating our four-legged friends; we are thrilled to announce a new initiative that brings the proven benefits of human-animal interaction directly to our hospital community. We are launching a new pet therapy program to provide comfort, reduce stress, and bring smiles to our patients, families, and staff.

Are you a dog owner who wants to make a pawsitive impact? Consider volunteering for our Pet Therapy program! 🐾

We are looking for people with dogs that are social, well-behaved, confident around wheelchairs and people of all ages, and that do not jump or lick uncontrollably. Each dog would be required to complete an evaluation session with Smiley K9 to determine suitability for the program.

If interested, please reach out to Riley with Smiley K9 to schedule your evaluation session!
