Big Ben who is a Pyrenean Mastiff and Bonnie Lou who is a Bernadoodle, enjoyed Christmas Eve today. Thank you for a wonderful first day. Big Ben met a young toddler who shared her peanut butter cookie with him and Bonnie Lou showed him around the office. Surry Rural Health Center enjoys being a teaching site for two legged students and 4 legged students. Thank you to the patients and staff for helping train service dogs and medical students.

Micaela Christian, PA-C is a board-certified Physician Assistant. She was raised in Hillsborough, NC, and has deep family ties to both Stokes and Surry Counties. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to earn her Master of Medical Science from the Wake Forest School of Medicine in 2025. During her time at Wake Forest, Micaela also participated in the Emerging Leaders Program and completed a Master of Science in Health Management through the Wake Forest School of Business.
Micaela has a strong passion for caring for pediatric and young adult patients. She values the privilege of guiding families through both joyful milestones and challenging health moments, and she aims to make every patient feel comfortable, cared for, and truly listened to. Her commitment to this community is deeply personal. Micaela’s grandmother dedicated her nursing career to serving the people of Surry County, working with the Health Department and a local hospice. Micaela is honored to carry forward that legacy by caring for the community that has shaped her family for generations.

Surry Rural Health Center is looking for a full-time Medical Assistant. A Medical Assistant is responsible for preparing patient rooms and assisting in the efficient flow of patient care within a healthcare facility. This role involves both administrative and clinical tasks to ensure a positive patient experience and support healthcare providers.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
• Monitor patient flow and physician schedules
• Greet and room patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed
• Verifies patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit
• Take and document vital signs, height, weight, and other information for patient visit
• Collect patient medical histories and update electronic health records (EHR)
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members about the care process
• Administer vaccines, injections, and medications under the direction of a physician
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation as required
• Perform EKGs, Spirometry, and other basic laboratory tests or office procedures as directed
• Assist physicians or other nursing staff during patient examinations and procedures
• Provide educational materials to patients regarding their care and follow-up instructions
• Ensure patient rooms are clean, organized, and equipped with necessary supplies
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications
• Respond to emergencies in the office per facility protocol
• Handle phone calls and assist with administrative tasks as needed
• Handles other duties as assigned

Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of modern office equipment
• Ability to operate a personal computer
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
• Proficient with medical terminology
• 1+ years in a medical office preferred

Group home visit today. Surry Yadkin Residential Services (SYRC) is a hidden gem in Surry County. They work with mentally and physically disabled adults. They have a very nice store on Pine Street near Main Street, Mount Airy. Crafts are made with the help of the residents. Glad to assist in their medical care.
