Diagnosing Autism: The Functional-based Portion of the Assessment

An Autism diagnostic interview with the patient’s parent is a central component of the Autism evaluation.

At NCBI, we use a combination of tests in the Autism evaluation to assess sensorimotor functions, cognition, including social cognition and emotional perception as well as language.

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale (ADOS) is also used in this portion of the assessment.

The ADOS allows the clinician to observe the social interaction, communication style, and imaginative play ability of children, adolescent and adult.
