Congratulations Lisa, a nurse on 4 West and recent DAISY Winner at McLaren Macomb. Lisa was nominated by a family member who noted her mother's care was exceptional. "Questions were answered, pain and anxiety levels were anticipated and administered to promptly, supplies were provided and we were moved to a quiet room to help usher our mom home and into Hospice," she wrote. "Lisa used her knowledge, care and compassion to anticipate our needs before we knew these needs would even exist."

Thank you, Lisa!

Congratulations to Cindy, an RN on 5 South, a DAISY Award winner for McLaren Macomb! Cindy was nominated by a patient's family member who was grateful for Cindy's time and attention while the nominator sat by her dying brother's bedside. When Cindy learned the sister was diabetic, she made sure she had some food, and after the brother passed away, Cindy sought out the sister to provide comfort.

Thank you for all that you do, Cindy!

WHAT'S GOING AROUND?— Each week, we ask our ER physicians what ailments and conditions are commonly being seen in our Emergency Room.

THIS WEEK, Dr. Stephanie Hernandez, an emergency physician at McLaren, reports:

Slip-and-falls
The sudden snowy conditions caused many to seek care in the trauma center after a slip and fall resulted in various orthopedic injuries to the extremities.

Viral infections
A viral upper respiratory infection has continued to spread, causing symptoms of congestion, cough, fever, and muscle aches, though tests have been negative for COVID-19, the flu, or RSV, but severe cases have led to strep throat in pediatric patients.

Shingles
There have been several cases of shingles reported in the emergency department and treated for symptoms of a rash and skin pain and sensitivity, though patients are not presenting in high volumes.

Gastro
Viral gastroenteritis cases continue to trend in significant volumes, causing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
