In a recent Detroit Free Press editorial, advocates call on Michigan lawmakers to pass the bipartisan Second Look Sentencing Act—a bill that would allow incarcerated individuals who’ve served at least 20 years to petition a judge for sentence review.

📢 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹:
“Michigan has some of the longest sentences in the nation… A second look acknowledges the human capacity for growth and rehabilitation.”

At SpArc, we believe justice should be both fair and forward-thinking. That includes recognizing when someone has changed, especially after decades behind bars. It’s time Michigan created more pathways home.

Gleaners is hosting drive-up food distributions this week, which are free and open to the public. Anyone in need of food is encouraged to attend and will receive over 35 pounds of nutritious groceries, like milk, fresh fruit, vegetables, lean protein, and other shelf-stable items while supplies last.

"This is hope." – Judge Joseph Toia, 16th Judicial Circuit Court, Adult Drug Court

The first annual 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼 brought together a powerful mix of people: those in recovery, their families, law enforcement professionals, and community partners all united under one roof.

SpArc was proud to attend — Evelyn and Jean spent the day connecting with dozens of inspiring individuals, participating in Narcan training, and gathering valuable resource connections for the people we serve. We didn’t attend every session, but the steady flow of introductions and conversations made a lasting impression.

From the clothing closet to the conversations in every corner, the event was filled with support, compassion, and real tools for success. We also had the opportunity to meet several of Macomb County's movers and shakers!

We’re already looking forward to the second annual — thank you to the Macomb County Probation and Parole Offices for bringing this vision to life.

Macomb County is seeking applicants for one open seat on the Community Mental Health Board! 🧠✨

Residents with a passion for mental health advocacy and community service are encouraged to apply. The term runs through March 31, 2027.

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications to fill one seat on the Macomb County Community Mental Health Board for a partial term that will run through March 31, 2027.

Mount Clemens is recommending denial for a new men’s homeless shelter. At SpArc, we see every day how our community’s housing crisis leaves people unsheltered with nowhere safe to go.

Without shelter, folks often end up in cars, tents, jail, or the hospital — instead of getting the stability and support they need.

We stand with MCREST and everyone working to keep our neighbors housed, supported, and treated with dignity.

MCREST questions the findings of a city report that states allowing another shelter would negatively impact the police, fire and emergency medical services, which are already overburdened.
