The 2025 Disability Pride Month theme, โ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐โ๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ญ๐๐ฒ,โ was chosen by a national group of self-advocates. The theme reflects both the communityโs resilience and growing concerns about threats to disability rights and services. While people with disabilities are part of every community, many are made to feel like outsiders.
Several policy and cultural issues are driving new urgency:
ยท ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ข๐: Proposed cuts and work requirements could block access to essential care and independence. https://thearc.org/blog/whats-happening-at-the-social-security-administration-heres-what-people-with-disabilities-need-to-know/
ยท ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: Federal underfunding and staffing crises are widening equity gaps in schools. https://thearc.org/blog/statement-on-dismantling-the-u-s-department-of-education/
ยท ๐๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ: Delays, office closures, and policy rollbacks are limiting access to benefits. https://thearc.org/blog/whats-happening-at-the-social-security-administration-heres-what-people-with-disabilities-need-to-know/
ยท ๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ค๐ฌ: As corporate commitments to diversity decline, disability inclusion is caught in the middleโimpacting jobs, visibility, and representation.
ยท ๐๐๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐: Slurs like the R-word are re-entering public discourse, fueling stigma and exclusion. https://thearc.org/blog/the-r-word-why-language-matters-and-how-we-can-do-better/
These national issues have deeply local consequences, and we hope you'll join us in fighting for inclusion and support in our communities.
