The theme reflects both the communityโ€™s resilience and growing concerns about threats to disability rights and services. While people with disabilities are part of every community, many are made to feel like outsiders.

Several policy and cultural issues are driving new urgency:

ยท ๐Œ๐ž๐๐ข๐œ๐š๐ข๐: Proposed cuts and work requirements could block access to essential care and independence. https://thearc.org/blog/whats-happening-at-the-social-security-administration-heres-what-people-with-disabilities-need-to-know/

ยท ๐ƒ๐„๐ˆ ๐‘๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐›๐š๐œ๐ค๐ฌ: As corporate commitments to diversity decline, disability inclusion is caught in the middleโ€”impacting jobs, visibility, and representation.

ยท ๐‹๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐š๐ ๐ž: Slurs like the R-word are re-entering public discourse, fueling stigma and exclusion. https://thearc.org/blog/the-r-word-why-language-matters-and-how-we-can-do-better/

These national issues have deeply local consequences, and we hope you'll join us in fighting for inclusion and support in our communities.

Inclusive language is so important!

The R-word isnโ€™t just outdated, itโ€™s harmful.

Too many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have grown up hearing it used as a punchline, insult, or a label to dismiss and dehumanize them.

In our newest blog, people share the real impact this word has had on their lives. Their stories are powerful, painful, and honestโ€”and they show exactly why this word needs to go.

Read their words. Feel their lived experiences. And then make the choice to never use it again and to say something when others use it: https://bit.ly/46eCLLw

๐Ÿ’ช We are still here. We are still proud. We are still fighting.

๐Ÿงก While the bill passed last week, we are still celebrating Disability Pride Month โ€” because our community refuses to be erased.

This bill puts health care, food assistance, and special education at risk for millions. It threatens the dignity, safety, and independence of people with disabilities.

But we are not giving up.

The disability community has fought for generations to be seen, to be valued, and to live freely in our communities. That fight does not end here โ€” and neither does our pride.

๐Ÿ’ช We are still here. We are still proud. We are still fighting.

Today, more than ๐Ÿ ๐ข๐ง ๐Ÿ’ U.S. adults identify as having a disability. But despite its size, the disability community remains underrepresented and often misrepresented in media coverage.

Disability Pride Month offers a chance to tell more accurate, nuanced, and inclusive stories about disability identity, civil rights, and the barriers many still face.

๐ŸŒฑโœจ Even on a holiday weekend, our community keeps growing strong!

Our garden is tended with care by dedicated people who know that connection, fresh air, and working together can brighten every day โ€” long weekends included.

Hereโ€™s to nurturing growth, independence, and each other โ€” today and every day. Happy holiday weekend from all of us at The Arc! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ’™

07/04/2025

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Independence Day reminds us that freedom isnโ€™t static โ€” itโ€™s something we protect, expand, and fight for every day.

At SpArc, we believe true freedom means access to care, justice that heals, and communities that include everyone โ€” especially people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health needs.

On a day meant to celebrate independence, we remember that many people are still fighting for theirs โ€” in courtrooms, in hospitals, in jails, and in policy rooms.

Hereโ€™s to building a community where freedom means safety, support, and dignity for all.

Stay safe, take care of each other, and enjoy your day however you can.
