Love this description of music therapy!
Supporting what’s strong, rather than always fixing what’s wrong ❤️

Music therapy goals can be misunderstood.

Myth:
Music therapy is about fixing what’s “wrong.”

Fact:
Music therapy is about supporting what’s strong.

While we are often referred due to a diagnosis—brain injury, stroke, autism, anxiety, stress—our work doesn’t stop there.

We work alongside the diagnosis, while connecting with the part of each person that supports emotional wellbeing, identity, and connection.

We focus on what can be strengthened.

We don’t define people by their disease, diagnosis, or challenge—we meet them as whole people.

Because who someone is matters just as much as what they are going through.

Love this for a good chuckle, but actually it's also a pretty great description of our work.

We don’t "fix." We walk alongside, listen closely, and provide support, using music as our guide.

Sometimes accompaniment is exactly what’s needed.

A great article by the BBC about the power of music and singing. How are you incorporating more music into the holiday season?

From boosting the brain to reducing pain, joining others in song can bring some wide-ranging benefits.

Our intergenerational groups at Kids Corner are always a highlight of my week. ❤️🎶Thank you Music Drives Us!

At today's awards ceremony at Waterville Jr High School, Kids' Corner was one of seventeen schools and non-profits recognized in the State of Maine. We have received a grant from the 'Music Drives Us' organization for our Intergenerational Music Program with music therapist, Carla Tanguay.

I am proud of our sweet little center for both receiving this grant and its ongoing positive effects on community building.

Oops! 🎵 I guess I was really in tune with my student this week — I left their house wearing one of their boots and one of mine! 😂

Sometimes you leave your students inspired, sometimes you leave with their shoes. 👢
