As audiologists, we spend a lot of time studying the connection between hearing and the brain. While research is still ongoing, we do know this: the more we hear, the more our brains stay engaged. The more we stay engaged, the more we participate in conversations, connect with loved ones, and stay active in our daily lives.
We also see the emotional side of hearing loss every day, the way people start to pull back, skip social gatherings, or feel exhausted from trying to keep up with conversations. It's not just about missing sounds; it's about missing moments.
If you’ve been feeling more isolated or noticing that conversations are harder to follow, please know you’re not alone, and it’s not something you just have to live with. Getting your hearing checked is a simple first step toward staying connected and confident.
We’re here to support your hearing and your well-being, because they go hand in hand. 💗

Feeling dizzy or off-balance lately? You don’t have to just “live with it.”

Balance issues can happen for a variety of reasons, and they can seriously impact your daily life. Many people with vestibular disorders find themselves avoiding activities they once enjoyed, and some even stop driving altogether. That kind of disruption can take a real toll on your confidence and independence.
The good news? There are ways to get answers and support. Just give us a call, and we can let you know what your first steps should be!
We’re here to help you find your footing… literally!

“Can you say that again?”
If you’ve found yourself asking this more often lately, you’re not alone. I frequently have grandparents comment that it’s hard to understand their grandchildren.
High-pitched voices, like those of children, can be especially difficult to hear clearly, especially when soft consonants like “s,” “f,” or “th” start to fade into the background.
In many cases, hearing changes happen gradually over time, and it’s easy not to notice until those special little voices become harder to understand.

Think hearing loss only comes with age? Think again.
Many people are surprised to learn that uncontrolled high blood pressure, not just aging, may have an impact on your hearing. Yep, hypertension doesn’t just affect your heart or brain; it may also damage the delicate hearing organs in your inner ear. Over time, reduced blood flow and oxygen to the ear can lead to noticeable changes in hearing.
If you're managing high blood pressure and have started saying "What?" more often than you'd like, don’t brush it off. Your ears might be telling you something important.
And don’t forget to talk to your primary care doctor about keeping that blood pressure in check.

When it comes to amplification and hearing loss, there are a lot of misconceptions out there!👂
For starters, when one ear can’t be helped by a traditional hearing aid, a cochlear implant may be the answer.
Some types of hearing loss are so severe in one ear that even powerful hearing aids don’t help. This is where cochlear implants can shine, by directly stimulating the hearing nerve to restore access to sound.
If you or someone you love has been told a hearing aid won’t help one ear, you might still have options.
As always, the right solution depends on your needs. If you’ve noticed a change in hearing in just one ear, give us a call and we’ll explore your options and find the best fit.

Let’s talk comfort. 👂
If a hearing aid isn’t comfortable, chances are it’s not getting worn.
And honestly? We don’t blame you!
That’s why we take the time to walk you through all the hearing aid styles that are right for your hearing loss and your lifestyle. From receiver-in-the-canal (RIC) to in-the-ear (ITE) to behind-the-ear (BTE), each option has its pros and cons… and we know them all.
Our goal is to find a device that not only works well but also feels good and fits seamlessly into your daily life. Because hearing better shouldn’t mean being uncomfortable!

Can I sweat with my hearing aids?
The summer months are full of SO many fun seasonal activities!
☀️ Gardening
☀️ Outdoor sports
☀️ Hiking
☀️ Fishing
☀️ Boating
☀️ AND MORE!
The humidity, coupled with extra sweat, can make our patients wonder…
”Should I be wearing my hearing aids?” 🤔
The answer is: YES.
For many of these activities, your hearing aids will be fine. They are meant to do LIFE with you and can withstand sweat… just don’t submerge them in water.
However, if you want to be extra cautious, you might want to consider investing in a dryer or humidifier for your devices. These are specific hearing aid cases that help absorb moisture while they’re not in use.
If you want recommendations, we’re always happy to help!

Let’s talk about a tiny part with a BIG job: your WAX TRAP 👀
(Also called a wax filter, cerustop, cerushield, wax guard… you get the idea.)
Its mission? To keep earwax out of the part of your hearing aid that sends sound into your ear. When it gets clogged, your hearing aid might sound weak… or completely dead.
If you’ve noticed this, it might be time to check your wax trap!
Of course, everyone’s wax levels are different; some need to clean them weekly, others can stretch it to every few months.
So, when’s the last time you changed yours?

You’ve probably heard about the link between hearing loss and dementia, but what does it really mean? Let’s break it down.

Our brains don’t have unlimited energy. They have to decide where to focus. For those with normal hearing, cognitive tasks and processing sounds get equal attention. But for someone with hearing loss? Their brain has to work overtime to make sense of what they hear, leaving less energy for memory, problem-solving, and other cognitive functions.

Over time, this mental overload doesn’t directly cause dementia, but it may contribute to cognitive decline, especially in individuals who are already at risk.

When conversations become harder to follow, people may withdraw or stop engaging, which means the brain misses out on the stimulation it needs to stay sharp.

It’s like a muscle: if you don’t use it, you lose it.
Protecting your hearing means protecting your brain.
