Your Midwife or OB Doesn’t Need to Have Given Birth to Support Yours 💛

Just like a coach doesn’t need to have played in the big game to lead a team to victory — your birth provider doesn’t need to have personally given birth to offer skilled, compassionate, evidence-based care.

What matters most is how they center you — your body, your instincts, and your goals.

Let’s honor lived experience and professional expertise. Both matter. Both belong.

We believe that part of the beauty of pregnancy is allowing it to proceed without unnecessary interference 💜💛

A lover of West Virginia, Midwife Zach has dedicated most of his adult life to the people of Appalachia. It's no secret that gentleness is important to us. It's in our name, it's in our reviews, and it's being instilled in every client we have the privilege of caring for. If you've ever left a prenatal appointment or well-woman visit and didn't feel like it was a gentle experience, send us a message. It is our goal and purpose to teach our community what gentleness is. 🩷💛

TRUE STORY TUESDAY 🎤 (trigger warning: obstetric violence & loss)

A young woman woke up early one morning, peed on a pregnancy test, and waited to see if she had the news she was hoping for. She was pregnant! She was excited to find out more and immediately called a local doctor's office to schedule her first prenatal appointment. She arrives to her appointment with her husband. They were both excited, of course. The receptionist was kind when taking her information. The midwife was kind when introducing herself. She was told they would be doing a Pap smear since she hadn't had one before. No one explained whether this was actually necessary nor did anyone ask her if she wanted one. She undressed and waited for the midwife to come back in the room. As soon as the midwife walked in, the woman's husband is told to leave the room because the midwife said, "I can't do vaginal exams under pressure." The woman laid there having a cold speculum pushed inside of her without warning. She left the office, cried on her way home, and felt like a failure because she didn't speak up and ask questions or just say no. That night she woke up with bleeding which lead to stress, anxiety, and sadness as she realized she was miscarrying.

No one told her the risks. No one reminded her of her rights. They did their job and forgot about her.

Many have a story like this. Let's bring awareness to mistreatment and put an end to it!
