We had such beautiful sessions with the kids today. We talked about how to express what we are feeling in a positive manner, while observing the equines interact with each other. We also talked about kindness and compassion towards others even when times are tough. So proud of these kids!

I’m going to leave some quotes of kindness to end our day on the farm. Wishing everyone a peaceful evening and think about how you can spread kindness.

🫏 “Although people can be cruel sometimes, kindness always wins. Enmity breaks hearts apart, but love assembles the pieces.”
― Anoir Ou-chad

🫏 “It is never too late to be kind, polite, and a loving human being.”
― Eddie Jaku

🫏 “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
— Sir Winston Churchill

🫏 “Kindness and politeness are not overrated at all. They’re underused.”

This morning one of our client’s is graduating high school and we are going to watch and cheer her on. We are incredibly proud of her! She works with Hank and unfortunately we can bring him to the graduation, so she is getting the next best thing, a Hank bouquet. 💐

This beautiful Indigo Bunting flew into the side of the office and knocked himself silly. We gave him some love and care and after he flew off on his way. Sad that happened to him and also what a gift to see him up close! Gorgeous!

Today was an extremely special day on the farm! I am so very proud to announce that our amazing and talented therapist, Nikki Smith, received news today that she was awarded her LPC. She is now a Licensed Professional Counselor. Receiving her LPC is the culmination of earning a masters in counseling with a year long internship and doing 3,400 hours of residency under clinical supervision. That is no easy feat and we are incredibly proud of her. This a testament to her character and kind heart.
I am grateful that I have been able to work alongside her these past three years while she has been on this journey. We love coming to work everyday and seeing the kiddos with their equine partners. I have seen Nikki grow not only in her profession, but also in her confidence and knowledge of horses, mules and donkeys. She is one heck of a horse/mule woman and has the love and respect of them. We, along with our equine family, have met and worked with many youths from ages 5 to 18 in our community and some adults during this time. Specializing in this type of therapy is a passion of Nikki’s and she is making such a difference in the lives of each client out here.

When Nikki started working out here she started working one day a week and told me that one of her goals was to have all the days of the week because she loves this scope of work. Since our program started, we have had five other wonderful therapists work here, who have moved on to other jobs, but will always be family. Miss you Jenny, Sarah, Melissa, Brooke and Jennifer!!

Well Nikki, my dear friend, you have all the days and your LPC. Job well done! Here is to helping more kids, laughter, adventures and taking care of the babies. The world is your oyster! Congratulations 🎊🎉

When winter has been hard and you’re smelly but you’re older and you don’t like baths. Poor Ollie. He was a good boy. And now he smells so good! He did enjoy drinking from the hose like we did as kids. He does not like his face washed. 😂

Sometimes you just have to breathe. Slowly in through the nose, slowly out through the mouth like you’re blowing a bubble. And sometimes you need to watch from a safe distance because those bubbles are scary.

This may look like just a hay bag with a hole where hay had been munched on, but it is so much more.
We had a session where we were talking in the barn aisle, standing by the second to last stall where this hay bag was hanging. Trudy was in the last stall, just standing. At a certain point in the conversation Trudy moved into the second to last stall by the individual where she remained, holding space, until she felt she was no longer needed. Trudy had freedom of movement and could leave at anytime, but she chose not to. She chose to stay and hold space through laughter and tears.
I didn’t notice this hay bag until hours later when I went to feed dinner. What was so moving about this hay bag, was that Trudy doesn’t eat out of hay bags and there was loose hay on the ground. I feel that this haynet represents her heart, compassion, and purness of love that she felt for this person. I was so incredibly moved when I saw it this evening. I was overcome with stillness.
She is an amazing girl and I am so incredibly grateful for her and her love. The animals we have in our lives are true gifts to be treasured.
