I think it was when I added two toddlers to the mix that food prep changed from meal prep to bulk prep.
Meal prep is when you follow a recipe and divide the recipe into meals for the week and bulk prep is when you make large amounts of a single item to turn into different meals throughout the week.
Another factor in our home is often times people will eat different meals due to allergies or sensitivities or preference. I got tired of making meals certain people wouldn’t eat so meal prep turned into bulk prep! Each week I bulk prep two forms of protein, at least one carbohydrate and a veggie.
This week I made Instapot shredded chicken, ground turkey, roasted sweet potatoes, and steamed green beans. These items can be turned into a protein with sides, a salad, tacos, a bowl or even soup since I saved the broth from the shredded chicken.
A pro tip is to keep on hand toppings, such as avocado, avocados, salsa, beans, herbs, like cilantro, and parsley.
Bulk prep is also crazy fast. I never spend more than an hour in the kitchen at a time.
Give it a try and let me know what you make! I’m always looking for new ideas!
