🍼 Understanding Reflux vs. Normal Spit-Up 🍼
All babies spit up — but how do you know what’s normal and what might be reflux? 🤔
✨ Normal spit-up
• Small amounts after feeds
• Baby seems content and continues feeding well
• Often peaks around 2–4 months, then improves over time
• Typically happens without distress or discomfort
🔥 Reflux (GERD)
• Frequent or forceful spit-up or vomiting
• Baby seems uncomfortable: arching back, crying, refusing feeds
• Poor weight gain or frequent coughing/choking
• Symptoms may disrupt sleep or feeding routines
If your baby seems fussy, uncomfortable, or isn’t gaining well, it’s worth checking in with your pediatrician and a lactation consultant. Sometimes small feeding adjustments — like positioning, pace, or latch — can make a big difference. 🌿
Remember: most babies outgrow reflux as their digestive system matures — and you’re doing a great job supporting them through it. 🤍
