Meet Bob Semprini, a retired pilot who suffered a heart attack soon after landing at LaGuardia Airport last year.

Thanks to the cardiac team at Huntington Hospital, Bob is soaring again and even got to take his retirement flight with his son. "They (Northwell) actually became the captain of my care," Bob said. ✈️

Starting today, John D'Angelo, MD, officially assumes the role of president and CEO of Northwell Health.

A physician first and foremost, Dr. D’Angelo leads with compassion. He began his more than 25-year tenure at Northwell as an emergency medicine physician at Glen Cove Hospital, and more recently served as executive vice president of the health system’s central region, advancing into health system-wide clinical and administrative leadership roles.

In his first few months as CEO, Dr. D’Angelo will focus on solidifying the Nuvance Health merger and advancing Northwell's digital transformation efforts.

“I’m honored to lead Northwell into an era of innovating for better health for all, where exceptional care, empowered employees, and thriving communities are the standard,” said Dr. D’Angelo.

Two years ago, Kevin Kapela, went out to play a round of golf alone. He suffered a "widow maker" heart attack and drove himself to North Shore University Hospital, where he received two stents and was one of the first patients to receive TherOx, a novel oxygen treatment.

Today, he's back on the course, plus attending The Ryder Cup with his family to celebrate his second chance at life. ❤️ ⛳

Say hello to our Sepsis Superheroes!

Here at Northern Westchester Hospital, we've made sepsis recognition part of our culture. We celebrate a "Sepsis Superhero of the Month" for the person who spotted early warning signs of sepsis and escalated care.

We even don capes now and then to keep the message memorable. It’s lighthearted on the surface, but the aim is serious: keep sepsis top of mind for everyone, because anyone can be the first link in the chain that saves a life.

ICYMI: Last week, it was Backpack Volunteer Day in Northern Westchester!

We saw 20 volunteers packing an estimated 200 backpacks (weighing an anticipated 2,000 pounds). Systemwide, raised $67,000 including approximately $5,500 from the western region, to fund the supplies.

Backpacks will be distributed through local food pantries in Westchester and through various CBOs and school districts in other regions.

Congratulations are in order to Anna Komorowski, MD, who we've just named chief of hematology, medical oncology.

Dr. Komorowski will oversee the hospital’s inpatient and outpatient hematology and cancer services, focusing on enhancing patient care, service quality and program growth.
