Nursing is a profession, and graduate nursing education plays a critical role in advancing patient care, leadership, and health outcomes.

AAHFN is inviting nurses to participate in shaping a short advocacy video that encourages responses to the petition proposing lower student loan limits for graduate nursing education. By sharing real experiences with graduate education and student loan use, nurses can help inform policymakers and the public about the true impact of these proposals.

Hyperkalemia affects up to 15% of patients with heart failure and remains a significant barrier to achieving optimal guideline-directed medical therapy. This Pearl of Practice highlights key risk factors, signs and symptoms, and evidence-based management strategies, including the role of potassium binders in maintaining RAAS/MRA therapy. Close monitoring and thoughtful intervention can make a meaningful difference in patient outcomes.

Monitoring disease progression in patients with ATTR-CM requires a clear clinical lens. An important distinction exists between amyloid deposition progression and true disease progression, such as worsening heart failure symptoms, functional decline, or quality-of-life changes. These may occur independently of additional amyloid deposition.

This In the Know feature highlights key criteria focused on monitoring disease progression in ATTR-CM to better inform clinical decision-making and patient management.

The Future Advancement of Academic Nursing (FAAN) Act (S.3435/H.R. 6607) is designed to strengthen the nursing workforce by increasing the number of nursing students and faculty, modernizing nursing education, and providing critical funding to schools in underserved and resource-limited areas.

AAHFN supports policies that advance nursing education and ensure a strong, well-prepared workforce to meet the needs of patients and communities. Now is the time to make your voice heard—share your perspective on this legislation with your representatives in Congress.

Your commitment to heart failure patients shows in the expertise and care you deliver every day. Maintaining your CHFN credential reinforces your knowledge in heart failure assessment, care planning, care management, and evaluation, and demonstrates that commitment to both patients and employers.

December CHFN recertification registration is now open. You worked hard to earn this certification. Do not let the deadline pass you by.

Pearls of Practice Series | Journal of Cardiac Failure
“In heart failure, there is no such thing as stable—only degrees of vulnerability.” This powerful perspective challenges us to move beyond labels and toward careful observation, precision, and empathy. By describing rather than assuming and understanding rather than reassuring, we strengthen both the science and the art of heart failure care.

In the Know: Obesity and Heart Failure
Obesity increases the risk of heart failure, coronary artery disease, and stroke, yet evidence shows that intentional weight loss can meaningfully reduce cardiovascular risk. The 2025 ACC Scientific Statement highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis, risk assessment, and comprehensive management of obesity in adults with heart failure, including emerging data on semaglutide and tirzepatide in patients with HFpEF and obesity. Equitable access to evidence-based anti-obesity medications and behavioral interventions remains a critical priority to avoid worsening health disparities and to improve quality of life and functional capacity for those living with HF.
