Winter Safety Tips for Horses, Cats & Dogs ❄

Cold weather can be tough on our animals, so a little extra care goes a long way!

Many cats seek warmth and may hide in engines or wheel wells, so check your car before starting it. Keep cats and dogs indoors when possible to protect their paws from freezing temperatures. Provide a warm, cozy sleeping area, and make sure beds are not near doors or windows where cold drafts can sneak in.

Watch for behavior changes. Cats may curl tightly, hide more than usual, or become unusually still. Dogs may shiver or lift their paws when outside. Horses may shiver, stand hunched, or clamp their tail down. These can all be signs they’re too cold. Ensure all animals have access to dry, warm shelter and bedding during winter weather.

Keep ID tags and microchip information up to date! If a pet gets lost during winter, this helps reunite them with their family and get them back to a safe, warm home as quickly as possible.

Stay warm, stay aware, and help keep every paw and hoof safe this winter. 🤍❄

Stokes Healthcare’s division, Stokes Pharmacy has been formulating custom prescription medications for both humans and animals since 1975. It has grown from a small hometown operation to a nationally respected pharmacy.

For individual patient prescriptions, Stokes Pharmacy is proud to offer manufactured items through Epicur Pharma, a sister division of Stokes Healthcare. Epicur Pharma is a mini-manufacturer, producing drugs such as Tacrolimus Eyedrops, Buprenorphine Injection and Gabapentin tablets. Epicur is overseen by the FDA and is considered a 503B Registered Outsourcing Facility. Epicur follows Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) which are the same rules and regulations as the pharmaceutical companies. Epicur Pharma is proud to be a pioneer in animal drug standards, offering the largest selection of manufactured drugs that are traditionally compounded.
