What people think OT is 👇
“fine motor skills, handwriting, cutting, maybe sensory bins…”

What a bottom-top approach to OT actually is 👇
We look at the why behind the skill

We’re not just looking at the hand that can’t cut or the child who can’t sit still—
we’re looking at the foundation underneath it all:

🫁 Respiratory & oral motor patterns
— mouth breathing vs nasal breathing
— airway efficiency, oral tone, tongue posture

😴 Sleep quality & regulation
— restorative sleep impacts attention, behavior, and learning readiness

🍽️ GI health & digestion
— gut discomfort, constipation, reflux → directly impacting regulation, feeding and daily participation

🧠 Nervous system regulation
— fight/flight/freeze patterns that show up as “behavior” in the classroom

From this lens, OT isn’t just skill-building—
it’s foundational system support for functional participation.

🌿 May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month 🌿

We recognize the profound impact communication has on a child’s ability to learn, connect, express emotions, and participate in everyday life. Every child deserves the opportunity to be heard, understood, and supported in a way that meets their unique needs. 💚

Speech and language challenges can look different for every child. Some children may have difficulty producing sounds clearly, while others may experience challenges with language development, motor planning difficulties such as childhood apraxia of speech, or require alternative methods of communication through AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

Some signs a child may benefit from speech therapy include:
• Difficulty being understood by familiar or unfamiliar listeners
• Limited vocabulary or delayed language development
• Difficulty following directions or answering questions
• Frustration during communication attempts
• Challenges with social communication and interaction
• Difficulty coordinating mouth movements for speech production
• Reliance on gestures or behaviors due to difficulty expressing wants and needs

At Restored Hope Therapy, we value a child-centered approach that celebrates all forms of communication. Whether a child communicates verbally, through AAC, gestures, or other supportive methods, every voice matters and every form of communication deserves to be respected and encouraged.
