A good latch is vital for effective breastfeeding, ensuring your baby gets enough milk while minimizing discomfort for you. Here’s how to achieve that perfect latch:

✅Position Baby Tummy to Tummy: Keep your baby close, ensuring skin-to-skin contact.
✅Align Nose with Your Ni**le: This helps your baby open their mouth wide for a deeper latch.
✅Support Your Breast: Use your hand to gently guide your breast to your baby’s mouth.
✅Bring Baby to the Breast: Always bring your baby to you; this helps maintain comfort and encourages a better latch.

Remember, breastfeeding should be a comfortable experience for both you and your little one. If you're facing challenges, don’t hesitate to reach out for support! 💖

✨ Why Burping is Important ✨

As a new parent, understanding the little things can make a big difference in your baby's comfort. Burping isn’t just a cute habit; it plays a vital role in your infant's feeding routine. Here’s why burping should be a regular part of your feeding process:

- Reduces Discomfort: Burping helps release trapped air, reducing your baby's discomfort during and after feeding.
- Prevents Gas: Regular burping can help avoid buildup gas, leading to a happier tummy for your little one.
- Improves Feeding: When babies are comfortable, they can feed more effectively, leading to better nutrition.
- Prevents Spit-Up: Effective burping can help minimize spit-up, ensuring more of that precious milk stays down.
Caring for your baby’s tummy is just one of the many ways we nurture and support their growth! 🌱❤️

Feel free to reach out if you have questions or need guidance on feeding and burping techniques!

Love that the word is getting out! I offer fl**ge fittings in north Mount pleasant and beyond. If you are concerned about milk output, reach out to Nurture and Nourish Services

JEANETTE MESITE FREM had such a powerful and impactful session today!

The fl**ge fitting with Christina Deleon had the room in tears as we saw the first droplets of milk after trying relactation with the correct size fl**ge.

One important aspect of successful breastfeeding is the proper fitting of fl**ges. Flanges are the funnel-shaped attachments that connect to breast pumps, allowing milk to be expressed from the breasts. Properly fitted fl**ges ensure efficient milk extraction and prevent discomfort or damage to the ni***es.

Proprioception is the sensory information from muscles and joints. It is a calming and organizing input. Sucking is a proprioceptive input, because the baby is using the muscles of their mouth to feed. This is a primary regulator for infants. This is why many babies get calm when they use a pacifier.

Infants with tongue tie (ankyloglossia) often have difficulty breastfeeding or even bottle feeding, which can lead to a range of issues such as poor weight gain, reflux, excessive gas and discomfort with feeds. In these cases, it’s important to find providers who specialize in treating tongue tie in infants. In this post I will discuss the tongue tie release and the team that provides support pre and post frenectomy.
The family plays a crucial role in the treatment of infant tongue ties. As the primary caregiver, parents must be aware of the signs and symptoms of tongue-tie, including difficulties in breastfeeding or bottle feeding, reflux, excessive gas, and discomfort during feeding. If parents suspect that their infant has a tongue-tie, they should seek an evaluation from a qualified professional. By working together with providers and actively participating in their child's treatment, parents can help ensure the best possible outcome for their child. 👶 Did you know that breastfeeding offers numerous advantages for your little one's auditory system? Let's dive into some of the fantastic benefits:

In a study published in Pediatrics, researchers investigated the correlation between breastfeeding and hearing development in infants. The study aimed to shed light on the potential benefits of breastfeeding on auditory function.

The researchers conducted a comprehensive analysis of a large sample size, comprising infants from diverse backgrounds. The study employed various assessments and measurements to evaluate hearing abilities in breastfed infants compared to those who were formula-fed.

The findings revealed compelling evidence supporting the positive influence of breastfeeding on hearing development. Infants who were exclusively breastfed showed significantly improved auditory responses and speech perception compared to their formula-fed counterparts. The researchers attributed these outcomes to the unique composition of breast milk, which contains essential nutrients, antibodies, and omega-3 fatty acids crucial for optimal brain growth and auditory system maturation. Breast milk's immune-boosting properties were also found to reduce the incidence of ear infections, thereby safeguarding hearing health in infants.

Additionally, the study emphasized the vital role of the mother-infant bonding experience during breastfeeding. The close interaction and intimate communication during breastfeeding were associated with enhanced sound discrimination abilities and better auditory cortex development in infants.

Sequi-Canet JM, Sequi-Sabater JM, Collar-Castillo JI, Orta-Sibu N. Breastfeeding results in better hearing in newborns compared to bottle-feeding. J Clin Transl Res. 2020 Aug 29;6(3):81-86. PMID: 33426357; PMCID: PMC7790499.

If you're a new parent, there's no doubt that you have a million questions about your little one's health and wellbeing. One common issue that can arise in newborns is tongue tie, also known as ankyloglossia. Tongue tie occurs when the band of tissue (the frenulum) that attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth is too short, tight, or thick. This can make it difficult for babies to breastfeed or bottle feed effectively, which can lead to a host of other issues.

This is a blog post talking about the signs of tongue tie in newborns.

Breastfeeding at the beginning has a learning curve.  There are common problems that tend to arise in the early days of feeding.  A common early challenge is torticollis.
Let's talk about a common challenge that can arise during breastfeeding: torticollis. Torticollis is a condition where a baby's has imbalanced body tension causing their head to tilt to one side or turn to one direction.

When a baby struggles to latch or feed on one side, they may begin to favor the other side. This can cause differences in milk supply between breasts, and uncomfortable inefficient feeds.

Torticollis can make breastfeeding uncomfortable for both you and your baby. But there are ways to address this, such as using different feeding positions and incorporating functional movement into your baby's routine.

Functional movement involves exercises that promote natural, efficient movement patterns and overall strength and flexibility. Simple movements, such as gently rolling your baby from side to side or encouraging them to reach for toys in different directions, can help loosen tight neck muscles and encourage a full range of motion.

If you suspect that your baby may have torticollis or are experiencing any other breastfeeding challenges, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider or a lactation consultant for support. Remember, every breastfeeding journey is unique, and seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
