The stories we tell ourselves matter.

Want less stress?

Notice the stories you tell yourself.

When we’re out on the roads driving, we don’t actually know the reason why someone is driving too slow (or too fast).

If we tell ourselves the story that “the person is a younger driver, just learning how to drive in the snow”, then our reaction will typically be more patient and less stressed.

However, if we tell ourselves the story “that driver is an idiot and should learn how to drive!” Well then, that thought is more likely to cause a stress reaction.

The truth is we honestly don’t know the reason others drive the way they do.

So if you’re already dealing with a lot of stress in your life, let me invite you to decrease your stress by “telling yourself a different story.”

Tell yourself a story that helps you be patient and give the other driver the benefit of the doubt.

If you’re creative and want to have extra FUN make up your own outrageous, far-fetched and hysterical story. You might just find yourself chuckling rather than angry and stressed.

You can’t always change the situation, but you certainly can choose how you react to it.
