My Story
I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2007 and I love my work even more today than when I first began. Why did I become an LMT? The heart of this decision dates back to my family, my childhood. My parents raised 12 children while living in the country. We didn’t have a lot of money or things, but you should have seen how hard my parents worked! My mother was a business woman, a Beautician by trade, who saw clients in our home. She was a homemaker, and worked outside of the home, as well, doing various jobs throughout her life. Some of which included: Seamstress, Housekeeper, Caregiver (for her mom and for other families children), and Farm Worker. My father served in the military (fought in the Korean War). He also worked as a maintenance man as well as in the Forestry Service. He was a Hunter, Fisherman, Farmer, and Handyman. I saw how they took care of us, especially mom. She took care of everyone and I saw the passion, sacrifice and love she demonstrated while doing so. That passion for helping is what made a lasting impression on me.
I have always wanted to be in the medical field and I’ve always wanted to work for myself, But I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I had been working as a Pharmacy Technician for 18 years and I knew that this wasn’t my ultimate career. As a technician, I usually didn’t see the people who received the medication that I prepared. I longed for more meaningful interaction, to see a positive result of the benefits of the therapy. However I wanted a holistic approach, instead.
Enter massage therapy! One of my greatest joys is seeing a positive change in someone who has spent time on my massage table. This is my natural high... This is nourishment for my soul... This is medicine for my heart.
I graduated from Trident Technical College’s Massage Therapy Program in 2007 and received my SC state licensure. Since then I have become a Board Certified Massage Therapist, a Certified Myoskeletal Therapist and a Certified Essential Oil Coach.
