Franke at Seaside, a ministry of the Lutheran Church, traces its beginnings to the evangelical Lutheran Charities Society of Charleston, when it was first founded in 1892 on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston. In 1908 the Evangelical Lutheran Charities Society, now known as Lutheran Homes of S.C, Inc., purchased and renovated the Adger family home and soon the Jacob Washington Franke Home welcomed its first guests. Since that time, the church’s ministry has grown by a hundredfold, providing a broad continuum of care as well as innovative wellness programs and services.

Luckily, there are plenty of tasty cheeses that do not need to grow mold before they are considered to be tasty and enjoyable.
Whether it is the versatile, rather hard cheddar cheese or the stringy mozzarella, cheese is one of the world’s most delectable delicacies that can go well with so many dishes. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that National Cheese Lovers Day is actually a thing!

From Frank Shepke, President & CEO, Lutheran Homes of SC: In Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Fifty-eight years ago, a shot rang out that changed the world. It was an assassins’ bullet that silenced the voice of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. That shot may have silenced his physical voice, but it didn’t erase his work and his message for the ages.

“I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together”.

The power of his message still resonates today with us all. Goodness shall always conquer evil, love shall always conquer hate, and the glory of God is always there for us all who seek our heavenly father and live his word.

So, let’s take a moment today to reflect where we are on this journey, and give thanks for the blessings we have and the work that is left to do. May God bless us all and keep the faith!

Catching up on all our fall and winter happenings here at Franke. On November 12th, Chef Steve prepared an oyster roast for our community. It was such a hit, that next time we'll get more oysters! If oysters weren't your thing, a delicious buffet in the Narthex of Rodenberg Chapel had something to please everyone. Thank you, Chef Steve! Good food, good weather and wonderful company made the event a success!
