Why is it that when we hurt our knee, back, ankle or shoulder we don’t hesitate to go to the doctor, but when we hurt our brain it’s another story? Did you know that only half of the people who get a concussion seek out medical treatment? We can’t treat concussions by “walking it off.”

Concussions are injuries to the brain that can leave us with symptoms of headaches, dizziness, nausea, motion sensitivity, and sensitivity to light if they are not treated properly. If you push through these symptoms, it may lead to a delay in healing of the brain and prolonged symptoms.

Recovering from a concussion can be difficult and exhausting. You may look completely fine. However, you are struggling with brain fog, headaches, dizziness, and this eye strain/pressure that is difficult to explain. You want to be able to do your normal activities, but your brain is exhausted from trying to function “normally” and heal itself from injury. This is what it is like to have a concussion, the invisible injury.

Concussion recovery can be difficult, but physical therapy can help. We can provide with exercises to help your brain heal without over working your brain. If you are experiencing concussion symptoms, give us a call for an evaluation.
