Are y'all as ready for as we are?

Basketball is a great workout that can help you build endurance, improve balance and coordination, develop concentration, and burn calories. Just watch out for sprained ankles, jammed fingers, and knee injuries which are some of the most common issues we see among basketball players!

Warming up before exercising is a great way to lessen your chances of overuse injury or muscle strain. Plus it supplies your muscles with oxygen and safely prepares your heart for more effective exercise.

Warming up doesn’t have to be time consuming or overwhelming. A 5 to 10 minute warm-up, including a light jog plus dynamic stretches to wake up the muscle groups you’re going to be using is a great, easy warm-up to prepare your body and reap the benefits!

You don't have to be part of that 80 percent!

🥇Identify what gets in the way of your healthy habits and take steps to address those things.
🥈Create a plan to build up small successes rather than going all or nothing. Celebrating small wins keeps you motivated and builds momentum.
🥉Keep evaluating yourself and your habits to make sure they're serving you and your goals in the long term.

Whatever your resolution this year, getting past the 30 day mark is a huge success! Use that momentum to push you through the rest of the year.

Why should you see a sports medicine physician?

As athletes themselves, Dr. Upshaw and Dr. McMarlin know how important it is for you to return to your sport as soon as you can when you suffer an injury.

If pain or injury is impacting your athletic ability, a sports medicine physician can help you develop a plan to get you back in the game as quickly and safely as possible.

Visiting a sports medicine physician can also benefit non-athletes. Gardening, carpentry, crochet, and even carrying a heavy bag are all tasks that involve repetitive or strenuous movements that can cause pain over time. Sports med doctors can help patients address this pain and get back to their daily activities pain-free.

Give our office a call today to schedule an appointment with one of our sports med physicians: (843)471-0375.

If you're looking to get more fit this year, make sure to start slow and build intensity over time, Doing too much too fast can leave you too sore to follow your workout schedule and can even leave you vulnerable to injury.

A bit of soreness can be normal if you're not used to working out, but if your pain is sharp or lasts more than a few days, check in with a sports medicine physician who can help determine the cause of your pain.

To schedule an appointment with one of our sports medicine docs, give our office a call at (843)471-0375.
