Stomp. Rocket. Repeat. 🚀
Who knew jumping + stomping could teach cause and effect, build leg strength, coordination, and motor planning skills… all while having THIS much fun? 😆

Breakfast thoughts?
‘Yummy in my tummy!’ 🥣🎉

With AAC, kiddos can express themselves, join conversations, and share their feelings—even during snack time! AAC is not just for use in therapy, it’s a voice for everyday life 🎙️

Tap tap tap 🎶
Making music in OT ✨

This kind of activity is great for motor planning, imitation, rhythm, attention, and sensory processing (especially auditory + proprioceptive input from the tapping)

Using everyday objects like glue sticks and pencils helps kiddos flex their creative muscles and make the most fun wherever they are!

We had such a fun time trying to stump each other with these tricky questions! How many did you get right?

Answers for curious minds 🧠

Proprioception = body awareness
This system tells us where our body parts are and how much force to use.
Input to the proprioceptive system – things like pushing, pulling, jumping, crashing, carrying– helps kids stay regulated, coordinated, and “just right” with their movements.

Vestibular = movement & balance
This system tells us how our body is moving and where our head is in space.
Input to the vestibular system –Think swinging, spinning, sliding, rolling – helps with regulation, balance, coordination, and visual tracking.

Recap
Proprioception = “Where is my body and how hard am I working?”
Vestibular = “How is my body moving?”

Two possible reasons for toe walking:
1. Sensory differences (often vestibular/proprioceptive seeking or avoiding)
Some kids toe walk because it feels better to their body. It can give extra proprioceptive input (through the calves/joints). Or help them feel more stable/regulated if their vestibular system is off. (Like our friend who wanted to take their sock off)

2. Tight muscles or motor differences
Sometimes it’s more physical. Tight calf muscles or neurological issues can limit the ability to get the heel down

Abduction vs adduction
Abduction: moving out away from the body ➡️
Adduction: moving in towards the body ⬅️

A fricative is a sound we make by pushing air through a small space in our mouth, which creates a soft ‘hissing’ or ‘friction’ sound
Fricatives include:
S, Z, F, V, SH, TH

The difference between S and Z is that S is produced without “voicing” (vocal fold vibration) and Z is “voiced”
A fun way to test the difference is to hold your hand against your throat. Your throat is still when you produce the S sound, and moves when producing Z. Give it a try!

As Miss Claussen said, the five domains of language are
Semantics: what words and sentences actually mean. Such as big vs enormous
Morphology: how words are built. Such as how adding -ed or -s to a word changes the meaning
Phonology: how sounds are put together. Such as “start” without the final T becomes “star”
Syntax: word order in a sentence. Such as The dog chased the ball vs Chased the ball the dog
Pragmatics: social language. Such as greetings and farewells and conversational turn taking

Creeping: the medical term for moving forwards on hands and knees, vs crawling which refers to moving forward while laying on your belly. But in real life we just call it all crawling 😉

Pes planus, or flat feet, is when the arches of the feet are deficient or absent, so the whole foot touches the floor in standing.

For plantigrade, it’s best to just watch ms. Jojo demonstrate 😊😂 Plantigrade is a normal position babies will use as they transition from the floor to standing, until about age 2-3.

Hoppy spring from every bunny at Coastal! 🐰🌷

Crafts = more than just cute projects 💛
They’re building fine motor skills, supporting language development, and encouraging creativity—while also giving kids a chance to connect, share, and play together.

Learning always looks a lot like fun around here (and it is!) 🌸

This is no simple craft! Our Awesome OTs can use a craft to work on so many goals!

-sequencing of multiple steps in the right order
-hand strength and fine motor skills with cutting and hole punching
-social skills and teamwork to make the craft together
-sustained attention: completing the craft from start to finish

At Coastal Therapy Services we prioritize working our patients’ interests and ideas into each session as we work on our targeted goals!

When you’re so excited to come to PT that you’ve got to dress the part 💪💪💪💪

Coastal Therapy Services has been making kids excited to come to therapy for nearly 25 years!

I’m getting this!!

This amazing routine was choreographed by this kiddo and his OT, and it’s actually doing a lot of important work!

Dance in OT can help support:
✨ coordination and motor planning (figuring out how the body moves through a sequence)
✨ balance and core strength
✨ body awareness
✨ rhythm and timing
✨ confidence and self-expression

You might also notice the wrist weights. These add a little extra resistance and proprioceptive input (deep pressure to the muscles and joints), which can help some kids better feel where their body is in space and improve control of their movements.

And when therapy feels like creating your own dance routine? Even better. Movement + creativity + fun = powerful learning
