As much as I would like to tell you that you can achieve happiness- it's just not realistic. You see happiness is an emotion and we were not made to only feel one emotion AT ALL TIMES. The richness to life comes in variety that we experience and the capacity to feel all emotions. And if we only felt happiness or joy it might take away the potency of those things.
So rather than grasping to the idea of being happy- can you shift to a sense of curiosity for ALL of what life has to offer. In doing so you might just find a bit more contentment in the ebbs and flows of life.

Yeah... I bet you'd be a lot kinder. What would you say to a friend or your dog if they came to you with some of the same struggles, difficult thoughts, or uncomfortable emotions that cause us to be so harsh on ourselves?

You wouldn't say "you're a fraud Emily?"
Or
"No one wonder no one likes you Bear Dog, you suck" *

That would be so unkind- so what if we started to respond to ourselves with more compassion and grace just as we did our most loved ones.

*i just want to note, no Bear Dogs were put down in the making of this post. He remains the best boy!! Swipe to see that rockstar good dog.

How many times have you said the top phrase to yourself?
It is so easy to get pulled into the sense of busyness and urgency going around us on all day everyday with the hope that one day you'll have time to take those precious moments for yourself.

Well NEWS FLASH- it will never slow down unless you make some time to slow down. Whether that be carving out a big chunk of time to reconnect to yourself and the world around you or just pausing to take three full and deep breaths.

So this is your reminder right here, right now to slooooooowwww it down! Pause and take three deep breaths. You absolutely deserve it!

Swipe to see my companions in carving out those moments for myself.

With COVID-19’s presence in our city, we request that if you are having flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, have traveled to a high-risk area for transmission of COVID-19 in the last 14 days, or if you have been in close contact with someone confirmed positive or currently being evaluated for COVID-19 you do not come to the office for therapy.

Online sessions (using a Skype-like platform, but HIPAA compliant and secure) are available if this applies to you or if you’d prefer accessing therapy from a private location ilke your home. Please let us know ASAP if you prefer this for any sessions.

We’re committed to continuing care and helping you reach your therapy goals. At this time we do not find it necessary to work exclusively online. We offer this to you for your comfort. If we do find it necessary in the future, we will let you know.

Keep washing your hands,

Vulnerability(n.)- the quality or state of being EXPOSED to the possibility of being attacked or harmed either, physically, or emotionally. .
We present to therapy for different reasons, but one uniting force many share in this is a desire for change. In order to make those changes we have to step out of our zone of comfort and get vulnerable. I’m talking admitting that we are human, capable of making mistakes, far from that “perfect” specimen we try to present ourselves as, with flaws, not always confident in all areas of our lives, etc and so on.
It is OK to be vulnerable. In fact it is our super power to break down those barriers, go against the grain and say (or yell) “YES I AM HUMAN, AND NO WHERE NEAR PERFECT. AND I AM PROUD.” To look that discomfort in the eyes and say I see you. No, this is not comfortable- in fact it is very, very uncomfortable. Both emotionally, mentally, and even sometimes physically. But it is necessary to break down those barriers with ourselves in order to begin this work for ourselves. .
Anyone feeling brave and want to share that you too have vulnerabilities, drop an emoji in the comments. 💫💜🦾

We don’t always have a say in how our life turns out, or even how each day unfolds. Despite planning, despite preparation, life will happen on its terms.
Can you own your story as it is? What would happen if we accepted the pitfalls and mistakes without judgment toward our selves and with as much grace as we do the triumphs? Can we nurture ourselves in a way that is productive and acknowledge our human-ness?

Love this piece of art I procured by . To me this print acts as a reminder that we humans have the capability reconnect to our lives when we feel a disconnect. That detachment can come in many forms:

💥getting stuck in our own head/thoughts

💥experiencing a rift or disconnect from our peers, family, partners, loved ones, etc.

💥feeling “stuck” or unsure of what we would like to cultivate for our future

💥having a “bad” day and feeling over it... the list is endless

We ALL have the capability to make that shift from disconnect to feeling fulfilled, but how?
SHAKE IT! 💃🏻FAKE IT! 😬MAKE IT! 💪🏾 (ground it! yoga it! cook it! run it! talk it out!...just to name a few more)
🌳 🧘🏼‍♀️🍝 🏃🗣
What helps you to reconnect?

Meet Lauren (me!) 😄
Owner & operator (therapist) behind Root to Bloom Counseling.
That’s right! There’s a human (just like you) behind this account and I wanted to share a little bit about myself!

✨I am an avid practitioner of yoga & mindfulness. I am working on the meditation part... more on that later.
✨I love, love, love mountains and anything to do with them!🏔 Although I live by the sea ,the mountains definitely hold a piece of my heart.
✨Along with yoga & being outdoors, cooking is my favorite way to relive stress (added bonus: practicing mindfully)
✨I am a music & dancing enthusiast- despite being rhythmically challenged 😂💃🏼🎶
✨I also see a therapist and have on & off for YEARS- & I am proud of it! Break that stigma💥🤛🏼

I love how this sheds light on some common misconceptions about mental health! In 2020, we hope to continue break the stigma surrounding mental health. If you have any questions about mental wellness or therapy, I would love to answer those for you. Check out the Root to Bloom Website or my Psychology Today page for the best way to get in touch.

It's time to clear up the misconceptions about mental health.
