🐾 Attention Charleston Pet Owners! 🐾

The City of Charleston has updated several animal control ordinances to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our furry friends. Key highlights include:

Adequate Care: New definitions for food, water, shelter, and overall care for outdoor pets.

Leash Law Update: Maximum leash length reduced to 8 feet—yes, retractable leashes count!

Livestock & Poultry: Permits are now clearly required for ownership within the city, and roosters are prohibited.

Microchipping & ID: Dogs and cats over 4 months must be microchipped—or wear a tag with current owner info.

Tethering Rules: Puppies under 12 months, females in heat, and nighttime tethering are prohibited; strict guidelines for weight and length apply.

Vehicle Safety: Pets left in vehicles must be monitored carefully in temperatures above 75°F.

Animal Rescues: Must register with Animal Control, maintain proper records, and follow intake rules for strays.

We are a PRIVATELY OWNED (No corporate craziness here!) small animal practice located in the Old Village district of Mount Pleasant. We are owned by the colorful Dr. Brian King. Dr. King believes in creating a positive and fun culture by providing rewards and incentives for excellent customer service and teamwork. Pet Vet is not your typical cold and impersonal hospital environment. We pride ourselves on having a team where everyone brings something different to the table that complements each others strengths. Since unity and team building are important to us, we offer multiple after hours team building outings throughout the year. Some past examples include pottery painting, visiting the Van Gogh Experience that came to Charleston, a yearly private sunset costume cruise in October, various concerts and much more! Because work/life balance is a priority, time off is encouraged and respected. Therefore, THOSE OUTINGS ARE NEVER REQUIRED, just offered. In addition to dogs and cats, you never know what will come through the door because we also have a wildlife license. We treat orphaned and injured wildlife of all shapes and sizes. We have seen it all - from injured pelicans to orphaned squirrels, and everything in between! One fun fact we are very proud of is that we have won Best Of Mt Pleasant multiple times! WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Experienced applicants only. We prefer licensed applicants but will consider experienced applicants as well. Must have at least 2 years technician experience
• Position is F/T
• Cornerstone experience a plus but not a must.
• Applicants must be proficient with (but not limited to):
• Drawing blood
• Radiology
• Getting a thorough patient history
• Administering medications
• Placing IV catheters and setting up fluids
• Assisting in surgery
• Administering & monitoring anesthesia
• Recovering surgical patients
• Answering basic medical questions
• Knowledge/ability to handle emergency situations
• Bandaging
• Performing lab tests such as in house bloodwork, ear smear, skin cytology, urinalysis

WHAT WE OFFER:

• Full benefits start after a 90 day probationary period
• Health insurance. We start off paying 50% then pay increasing percentage based on longevity
• Vision/dental - with same percentage pay set up as the health insurance
• 401K - We match up to 3%
• AMAZING vacation accrual! Starting off with 60hrs vacation and 60hrs sick and then increasing time based on longevity
• LARGE employee discount
• Free use of our on site doggy daycare pending your dog passing orientation
• One consistent weekday off during the week plus every Sunday off
• Rotating Saturdays off (Saturday shifts are only half day as we are only open until 12pm) so multiple weekends a month completely off
• Time off is respected and encouraged
• CE and license renewal reimbursement
• Monthly bonuses
• $100 bonus every quarter for being on time every shift
• Rewards packages that get larger for every longevity employment tier that is met (including things like bigger bonuses, extra vacation days, etc.)
• Periodic "think outside the box" rewards
• $300 yearly scrub allowance
• $100 bonus on your birthday or your choice of cake or lunch on your birthday
• Holiday pay. We pay 10 hours for holidays that we are closed all day. We are closed Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day. We are open a half day on New Years Eve. Staff that works that day will receive bonus pay in addition to their normal pay
• Must be able to work rotating Saturdays. We are open 8am-12pm on Saturdays
• We are CLOSED EVERY SUNDAY
• We are open Mon-Thurs 8am-6pm, Fri 8am-5pm, Sat 8am-12pm
• We close one hour for lunch Mon-Fri
• Pay is $20/hr negotiable based on level of experience

Looking for a new furry companion? What about 2? From strangers to best furr-ends, Shrimp and Shar have become very close here at Pet Vet. Both are trying to find a home, but why not take them both? In fact, one adoption fee covers BOTH cats and their spays too. Both kitties are about 8 weeks old, super friendly, and very playful. Give our office a call if you have any questions or stop by and see for yourself just how awesome these little girls are!
