While technology📱 has made our world more connected than ever before, loneliness is a growing concern. In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General classified loneliness and social isolation as an “epidemic,”📈 highlighting the urgency with which we must address this harmful phenomenon. Among the most vulnerable in this loneliness epidemic are youth, 🚸whose longing for social connection is a pivotal part of their developmental stage.🤝 The key to healthy connection, however, requires real-world interaction that extends beyond the mere 2D world of our phones.🌳
Parents can support this real-world engagement through a variety of means—sports, ⛹️♀️extracurriculars, family meals,🍽 and more. Counseling💓 is another valuable tool for fostering connection, providing a safe place for youth to feel seen, heard, and supported. 🙏It is not meant to replace parent or peer relationships, but to come alongside them in helping youth flourish into who God has created them to be.💗
