Teachers are humans just like anyone else. We have family problems, bills to pay, failures, and disappointments. We are not exempt from disconnection notices, judgments, and betrayal. Maybe the standards set for us are very high, and sometimes we fail to meet your expectations. But please understand , we are one with you, trying to survive and live life to the fullest.

As a symbol of compassion and solidarity for our friends and neighbors in the Washington Community School District, we invite all students and staff to wear orange and black on Wednesday, October 2nd, in memory of the Washington High School senior that tragically passed away this weekend.

Let us show the Washington community that they are not alone in their grief, and that S.E. Iowa Students and Faculty stand with them in love, strength, and unity.

The Iowa DNR identified the victim as 17-year-old Carson Ryan of Washington. Several southeastern Iowa school districts, including Washington Community Schools, WACO CSD and New London CSD, asked students to wear black and orange on Monday in Carson's memory.
