Engine 37-1, Engine Rescue 37, and Squad 37 responded to a reported garage fire in the township tonight. Chief 37 arrived on scene confirmed a working fire in a detached garage. Engine 37-1 arrived first on scene and pulled 2 hand lines. The interior crew reported the fire was knocked down while a water supply was being established by other township companies. A crew of 14 worked on extinguishment, ventilation, and overhaul with the other 4 township departments as well as some surrounding departments. Upon investigation the fire was started by an overheated drone battery that caused a nearby fuel container to melt and spread throughout the garage. Please use caution when charging batteries. Thanks to Mt. Pleasant VFD for covering our area.

Members spent the past two evenings reviewing basic vehicle rescue skills. Groups of 2 started by stabilizing a vehicle on its wheels and on its side using both traditional cribbing and struts. Officers discussed the advantagesand disadvantages of each with newer members as well as company preferred methods. After stabilization members moved into various extrication techniques using our Genesis EForce rescue tools including door removal, roof removal, and dash lifts. Members also reviewed patient packaging and removal with some of our certified EMTs. Engine Rescue 37 carries a set of Genesis eForce rescue tools, a set of gas powered hydraulic rescue tools, various sizes of cribbing, Paratech Rescue Struts, air chisel, high pressure air bags, rope rescue equipment, as well as various hand tools. Thanks to Norvelt Pizzeria for dropping off pizzas while we trained.

Members spent the evening training with Tower 38 and members of the Mt. Pleasant VFD. Our departments run structure fires as well as many other emergencies together. Time was spent reviewing each other’s apparatus and equipment, reviewing hydrant hookups with new members, pump operations for master streams, and tower operations. In addition to Tower 38, Engine 37-1 (2000 GPM, 1030 gallons) and Engine Rescue 37 (1500 GPM, 750 Gallons) were used during our evolutions. If you’re interested in learning more or thinking about volunteering stop down and talk to us or send us a message, we’d be happy to answer any questions.
