Scout Troop 23

Troop 23 is a local Boy Scout Troop located in Mount Prospect, IL. The Troop was founded by the American Legion Post 525 - Mount Prospect in 1931.

Last afternoon on solo kayaks - The carnage at Surprise rapids (class III), only 6 out of the 29 scouts, scouters and guides made it through. Everyone survived without issue, just a bit more wet than beofore. So much fun to chalange everything we learned for the past 4 days (part 2 of video in comments).

Last morning in solo kayaks - Jump off rock, ducky wars and ducky towers. Time to relax before the afternoon "Surprise"....😟

Day 3 on the water - Scouts batted Ledges a class 3 raid and all stayed in their ducky - had a nice hike to a waterfall - in the evening Bus Stop (one of our river guides) gave a great tour of the historic town of Thurmond that over looked our first class 3 for the next day.

Scouts had a fantastic day 2 on the river. Saw their first couple class 3 rapids and managed to go 14 miles down river to camp. At camp they were treated to river from campsites and a bamboo forest where they spent some time cutting it down (Bamboo is evasive).

Today the Morning rain didn’t stop the scouts from getting on the river. First Duckie school and then went through some class II rapids and tried some West Virginia surfing before making it to camp. At camp scouts had time to work on kayaking and white water merit badges and some fishing.

Made it to Summit. Check in, shakedown, packed our dry bags, dinner and some exploreing. Tomorrow we hit the water!

High adventure is underway! First stop wa the National museum of the USAir Force, scouts got up close to plans and got to ride simulators then bowling to wait out the rain and then our camp site inside the wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. Next stop is a week of white water at Summir Bechtel scout reserve in West Virginia.
