The 2025 Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change finds that:
⚠️ 13 of 20 key health indicators are at record highs.
🔥 Heat-related deaths have surged 23% since the 1990s — now 546,000 lives lost each year.
🌫️ Wildfire smoke killed 154,000 people in 2024.
🦟 Dengue transmission potential has risen up to 49% since the 1950s.
💀 Air pollution from fossil fuels causes 2.5 million deaths annually.

Despite this, governments spent $956 billion subsidizing fossil fuels in 2023 — while oil and gas giants plan expansions far beyond a liveable planet.

But there’s hope: clean energy is saving 160,000 lives a year and showing what’s possible when we act.

🌍✨ Good news alert! Walmart has once again made progress cutting toxic chemicals from its products—showing big retailers CAN work with suppliers to eliminate harmful chemicals.
But there’s more work to do. Walmart must continue to set ambitious goals to reduce its chemical footprint and commit to maintaining transparency with customers.
