🦋 Holistic Healing at Blue Lotus 🦋

If you know us, you know that mind-body integration is something that we hold near and dear to our hearts. Pairing counseling with holistic physical health supports can create deeper, more lasting change. That's why Blue Lotus offers many different modalities of integration!

We offer grounding and restorative services that work alongside therapy to help the body release stress and return to balance, including sound bowl healing (by appointment only), red-light therapy, bio-acoustic mat experiencing sessions, and our Himalayan Salt Sauna. These experiences are designed to calm the nervous system, support circulation and cellular repair, and invite the body into a state where healing feels calmer and more accessible.

When the body softens, the mind can open. When the nervous system feels supported, emotions become easier to process. Holistic care helps create the internal space needed for counseling to become more effective, gentle, and empowering 🪷. Walks-Ins are welcome! Gift cards for our services are available!

Yesterday we touched on a very important topic. Some of our reactions are, in fact, generational 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

Have you ever overreacted to something small and thought, "why did that hit so hard?", or "I sound like my mother/father"?
Sometimes, the answer is you're not just reacting for yourself, you could be reacting for a whole family line. We're all born into emotional blueprints that were created long before we came around! The way our caregivers survived stress, hardship, or instability shaped their nervous system also belongs to us.

Inherited patterns can shape how we see ourselves, how we feel, and how we interpret the world. Your brain could still be running a software update from 1937 (metaphorically, of course 😉)

So the next time you feel anxious for no obvious reason, struggle to rest, or feel like you have to "keep going no matter what", consider for a moment that it may not just be personal, it could be amplified by three generations before you. And yes, her sister being a witch does matter. No, you're not wrong. Actually, collaborating with your therapist to devise a family tree could turn out to be very important, to helping you in understanding yourself!

🎊 February marks Black History Month!

Black history month is more than remembering the past. It's about honoring the strength, resilience, knowledge, and collective healing that lives on through every generation. Many of the stories, struggles, and triumphs carried by black communities and powerful influences continue to shape how we experience the world today. People such as Rosa Parks, or Martin Luther King Jr. are some of the more widely known, but there are people similar in every direction you look when it comes to black history!

More than that, we can appreciate an educational moment to discuss how this all invites us to look at how intergenerational pain, survival, and resilience are passed down. The experiences we feel don't always belong to us, but we carry them through generations. When we name what was endured by our heritage, culture, or bloodline, we can also honor the courage and create space for rest, growth, and emotional freedom.

This month, we celebrate Black voices, Black stories, and Black excellence, for everything that it is. Let's honor the legacies, together ❤️

Yesterday we shared some tips for parents to help cool down when feeling overwhelmed. Today, we'd like to share some tips on how to communicate with your kids, if they're having big emotions!

Many kids don't yet have the words to explain their big feelings, and that's normal. Using something like a color system gives children an easy, visual way to share how they're feeling inside! Color systems can help them notice what's happening inside their bodies, without pressure to "find the right words", while allowing them to then feel understood and supported. This can also help reduce meltdowns by de-escalating situations before it gets to a point of boiling over!

Remember, all emotions are welcome here. Colors aren't meant to be used as "good" or "bad", just helpful signals ❤️.

This weather is really something, huh? When you're snowed in with the whole family, routines can be off, the house becomes louder, and it can feel like there's nowhere to "reset". It makes sense if right now, everything feels like too much. Parenting is already constant and unpredictable. Add in a winter storm, cabin fever, and disrupted schedules, and you might start to feel yourself waving a white flag.

If you've felt irritable, shut down, teary, or like you need to escape the room for just one quiet minute, that's completely normal. You're overstimulated. It's what happens when your brain and body have taken in more than it can process at once. You don't have to just push through it!

Modeling regulation skills to your children leaves a profound impact. It shows them how to handle their own big emotions. Here's a few essential tips, from us to you, if you're struggling in this weather.

There's something about being wrapped in the warmth of your favorite blanket, or comforted by your favorite hot chocolate, or hot tea, isn't there? Especially while the world literally feels frozen outside. ❄️

We would like to take this time to remind everyone, even ourselves, that comfort is not a luxury outside of our reach, it's an integral part of our overall wellness. And it can be found in our daily lives, if we allow it.

As the quote reads, "Healing doesn't mean that the damage never existed. It means that it no longer controls you". Sometimes, that looks like choosing softness, warmth, and comfort in what seems like small ways, when our inner world feels the heaviest. When you choose comfort, despite the heaviness or exhaustion, you are choosing regulation, resilience, and repair. ☕️

You are not behind for needing gentleness in a storm. You are not weak for craving ease when all you've known is chaos. You are, instead, honoring the part of you that is still learning that rest is crucial, and productive to our goals. Let that storm stay outside, so that your healing may feel warm.

We live in a world that praises busy, and "to keep going". I think many of us were reminded of this as we continue to recover from the winter weather.
..but healing doesn't happen at full speed. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for yourself is slow down long enough to allow yourself to be heard again.

That's where affirmations can come in. Not as "positive thinking" but as gentle reminders to our nervous systems and to ourselves. Today's is "You don't need to rush. Slow down. Your calm energy is more powerful than urgency". When you repeat words like these, you're not just changing your thoughts, but we're teaching our bodies that it's okay to exhale.

Let this be your permission slip to pause, breathe, and speak kindly to yourself. Healing grows in the quietest of moments, too 🦋

To all of our clients:

Laura and/or Samantha will be reaching out to you. If they cannot physically make it to the office, they will discuss weather plans for your appointment times, if they are affected! If they can make it into the office, but you cannot, make sure you're reaching out to discuss Plan B! Collaborative care, as well as our clients' safety, is always our top priority at Blue Lotus! Please make sure you're keeping an eye out for any messages from them!

If you do NOT hear from them, please assume your regularly scheduled appointment has not been affected! Last minute changes and cancellations are never the goal, but sometimes playing the weather by ear is our best bet to make the most educated decision for our clients. We appreciate your understanding!

It's no secret, this winter storm has majority of us snowed in. Make sure if you cannot make it out to your appointment, that you are checking in with your clinician!

But, is anyone else feeling a little extra reflective in this winter weather? Something about cold weather and quiet days can make us feel like we want to pause a little more than normal.

So, here's a gentle question to sit with today. "What feeds my soul?". Not what's productive, or what you 'should' love. What actually feels real and nourishing to you? Maybe it's finally getting in some good rest. Maybe it's music, movement, journaling, or deep talks. Or, maybe it's laughing and finally letting yourself slow down for once.

If you're stuck inside today anyway, this could be the perfect moment to grab a warm drink, curl up with a blanket, and write it out. No pressure or perfect answers. Just simple curiosity.

On this we're celebrating the power of boundaries! We love to hear when our clients are successful in their boundary setting 🗣️. We may even do a little dance, just like this one 😉.

Boundaries are more than just "rules" or "lines in the sand". They're actually acts of self-respect, courage, and self-care. Setting limits with others can feel uncomfortable at first, but every time you honor your own needs, you're protecting your energy, reducing stress, and creating space to be fully present.

It's easy to underestimate the small moments when we say "no" or create a line, but each one is a step towards a better you. So take a moment to celebrate your boundaries, your growth, and the courage it takes to finally prioritize your well-being ❤️.

Did you know that Laura is actually a Registered Yoga Teacher?

She believes that healing is not just about the mind, but about the whole self. Integrating yoga into her therapy practices allows for a deeper connection between thoughts, emotions, and the body. Through mindful movement and breath, clients can learn to:
🦋 Reconnect with the body, by understanding how emotions manifest physically and release tension stored in the muscles
🦋 Cultivate emotional awareness by noticing feelings without judgement, building self-compassion and clarity.
🦋 Reduce stress and anxiety by using breath-centered practices to bring calm and presence in the midst of life's challenges.
In her holistic approach, therapy becomes more than conversation. It actually becomes an embodied practice.

It was this philosophy that inspired the creation of Blue Lotus! Are you curious to know how she integrates yoga into her approach? Reach out!

Emotional regulation in real life: the STOP technique 🧠
As we said, if emotional regulation meant never feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or activated, none of us would ever be "regulated". So here's a skill from us, to you!
S - Stop. Pause. You don't need to react right now.
T - Take a breathe. Slow breathing helps your nervous system shift out of survival mode.
O - Observe. What emotion is present? What's happening in your body? What thoughts are showing up?
P - Proceed with intention. What's your next step?
We think of coping skills like muscles, the more you use them, the stronger they are. Emotional regulation is a practice, not a personality trait. Every pause counts.
