MILBERT "BUDDY" COLLINS Obituary
Milbert “Buddy” Bush Collins, age 96, of Mt. Sterling, KY, passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2025. Buddy was born August 23, 1929 in Mt. Sterling to the late Henry and Beulah Stewart Collins. Buddy proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer and used to breed and race horses. Buddy is known in the area for his building development and construction business. He developed 5 subdivisions in Montgomery County as well as building houses and businesses including the Herald & Stewart Home For Funerals buildings. Buddy was of the Christian faith.

Buddy is survived by loving wife of 71 years, Phyllis Lawson Collins of Mt. Sterling; his daughter Tina Collins of Mt. Sterling; 2 granddaughters Sylvia Collins of Mt. Sterling and Stephanie (Ian) Jones of Chesapeake, Virginia; his great granddaughter Kennedy Jones; and his niece Diana Amburgey.

Buddy was preceded in death by his son Timmy Collins; sister Betty Conley; brothers Skeeter Collins and Henry Collins, Jr.

The graveside funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, in the Chapel at the Machpelah Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, KY. Officiating will be Rev. Stephanie Moon. Full Military Rites by the American Legion Mt. Sterling, Post 22.

Barbara Gail Coyle Lawson, age 75, of Jeffersonville, KY, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Barbara was born January 21, 1950, in Bath Co. to the late Hayden and Thelma Thornburg Coyle. She was retired from Summit Polymers. Barbara loved to work in her flower gardens. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Barbara attended the Christian Assembly Church Of God.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Crystal Gail (Tim) France of Jeffersonville and her son Shawn Lee Lawson of Mt. Sterling; 7 grandchildren: Madalyn France, Kaylee Morris, Spencer France, Lawson France, Shelby Lawson, Landon Lawson, Meghan Lawson; 2 great grandchildren: Stella Henry and Dallas Henry. 1 brother Bobby Coyle of Owingsville; 3 sisters: Rosetta Williams of Owingsville, Wanda Letcher of Mt. Sterling and Judy Sparks of Owingsville.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Herald & Stewart Home For Funerals Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Scott Barnes and Tim France.
Burial will follow at the Lovely-Amburgey Cemetery in Jeffersonville, KY.
Pallbearers: Shawn Lawson, Landon Lawson, Kevin Lawson, Taylor Morris, Jr. Sparks, Gary Jamison.
Honorary Pallbearers: Dwayne Jamison, Mark Coyle, Robbie Taulbee, Brian Taulbee, Adrian Marshall, Hunter Greer, Spencer France, Lawson France.

Wendy Elam Ison, age 80, of Mt. Sterling, KY, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025, at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY. Wendy was born January 26, 1945, in Whitesburg, KY, to the late Earl and Martha Hodge Elam. Wendy graduated in 1963 from Stuart Robinson High School in Letcher County. She enjoyed line dancing, knitting, maintaining a beautiful lawn but her grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life. She volunteered at the Camargo Church of God Food Pantry for many years. Wendy was also a cancer survivor. She retired after 40 years from A.O. Smith, where she was the secretary for the company president. She was a faithful member of the Eastland Church of God.
Wendy is survived by 2 sons: Brett (Emma) Ison of Nicholasville, Mark (Annette) Ison of Mt. Sterling; 4 grandchildren: Alexander Ison, Benjamin Ison, Emily Ison and Ella Ison; 3 brothers: Terry Elam of Hamilton, Ohio, Donnie Elam of Mt. Sterling, Harry Pennington of Mt. Sterling; a very special friend Gary Puckett; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Wendy was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Charles Elam and Doug Elam.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Herald & Stewart Home For Funerals Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be James Hendrix.
Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Ben Ison, Alex Ison, Brett Ison, Mark Ison, Gary Puckett, Emily Ison, Ella Ison, Bryan Puckett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Debra Ann Catron Branham, age 62, of Mt. Sterling, KY, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital, Mt. Sterling. Debra was born January 15, 1963, in Mt. Sterling, KY, to the late Talmadge and Emma Esteppe Catron. Debra loved her family and dedicated her life to caring for their needs. She was of the Christian faith.
Debra is survived by 2 sons Talmadge “Abe” (Rachel) Branham of Mt. Sterling and Joshua (Candace) Branham of Jeffersonville; 2 grandsons Christopher Branham and Mason Malone; 3 granddaughters Alicyn Hahn, Emma Branham, Andrianna Ingram; 1 sister Gina (Jeff) Crabtree of Enterprise, AL, 1 brother Tony (Amanda) Catron of Jeffersonville; 4 nieces; and her fiancée Larry Burdette of Mt. Sterling.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Herald & Stewart Home For Funerals. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Officiating will be Donald Wayne Hale.
Burial will follow at Catron Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

Thomas Purnell, age 57, of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at his home. Tom was born on December 18, 1967, in Covington KY to Raymond Purnell and Nancy Gray.
Tom is survived by his wife of 19 years Tara Purnell and two daughters Tiffany Dawn and Emily Grace and 2 grandchildren Derrika Faith and Lillian Grace. He is also survived by his sisters Nancy Tumey and Sandy Evans and their spouses. One brother Scott Purnell.
Tom was preceded in death by his father Raymond.
He will be remembered fondly by his in-laws Kenneth and Gerri Barrett, sisters-in-law Tracy and Katie, brother-in-law Kenneth.
A memorial service will be held at Daysprings Church in Frenchburg on Sunday, September 28th from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Oscar Kenneth Brown, age 88, of Mt. Sterling, KY, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 22, 2025. Ken was born in Liberty, KY on April 1, 1937, to the late Oscar and Ruth Games Brown. Ken was retired from IBM where he worked for many years. He also proudly served his country in the Air Force. Ken enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. He spent countless hours in his many flower gardens. Ken was of the Christian faith.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jeanette Brown of Mt. Sterling; his son Kenneth “Buddy” (Ginger) Brown of San Antonio, TX; 2 grandsons Kenneth Winn Brown and Kolten Brown; several nieces and nephews and 1 sister Aline Brown Mosley.
Besides his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia G. Brown.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Officiating will be Todd Wiley.
Burial will follow at Caney Fork Cemetery in Liberty, KY.
