Summer is coming! It's a great time for a genealogy-themed vacation. We'll be listing tips here for the next few posts. #1 is preparation. Come to the Center if you need help finding documentation.
Identify Locations: Before booking, know the specific town, village, or parish your ancestors originated from, not just the country.
Do Your Homework: Build your family tree and gather documentation (birth certificates, naturalization papers) to identify specific research gaps.
Create a Targeted Itinerary: List specific places to visit, such as courthouses for land records, libraries for local history, and cemeteries.
Reach Out Early: Contact local churches or archives well in advance to ensure records are accessible, particularly in Europe where hours can be strict.
