Ah, the most wonderful time of the year when your neighbor’s house becomes a competitive hedge maze of twinkling lights, and you suddenly question your own sense of holiday spirit because after you untangle the massive knot of your string lights only to discover that they work every other year!
Today is the day to celebrate the magic of Christmas lights — or, as we like to call it, the annual contest of who can create the most extravagant light display and subsequently send the electric bill skyrocketing to new heights. Seriously, the only thing brighter than those lights is the sparkle in your eye as you contemplate how you just might launch a crowdfunding campaign to pay for your latest electric bill.
Let’s not forget the good ol’ “light it up like Christmas!” walks through the neighborhood. You know the drill: you step outside and instantly feel like you’re in a holiday-themed episode of a crime show, as you squint into your neighbors' glimmering decorations, wondering if they’ve consulted some sort of magical light wizard for advice. “Oh, you think that’s over the top? Wait until you see my inflatable Santa doing the cha-cha with the Grinch!”
And who can ignore the untouched strings of lights that have been neatly stored away since last January? There’s always that moment of dread when you open the box and find not so much a string of lights but a cruel masterpiece of knots that requires two PhDs and a year of your life to untangle. It’s like they conspired against you, plotting their great escape all year long.
So, as we turn our homes into sparkling festive fortresses (hopefully with minimal trip hazards), let’s embrace the joy, laughter, and slightly singed eyebrows this National Christmas Lights Day brings.
Remember: if it doesn't light up the sky and potentially attract the attention of aircraft, you're doing it wrong.
May The Odds Be In Your Favor and Happy decorating!
